Exterior Features
The 2012 Porsche Cayman is a 2-door sports coupe available in four trim levels. Seventeen-inch wheels are standard.
Interior Features
The 2012 Porsche Cayman seats 2 passengers and provides 9.2 cubic feet of trunk space. Base models are equipped with cruise control, air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 4-speaker audio system with a CD player and iPod interface. Cayman S Black Edition models feature black interior styling, sport steering wheel, and Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with an upgraded Bose audio system, satellite radio, and a navigation system. The top-of-the-line Cayman R is stripped of its air conditioning and stereo to save weight, and also features special lightweight seats.
Optional Features
Porsche offers a myriad of optional features for the Cayman depending on trim level, and also groups many upgrades together in packages. The Sport Chrono package boosts the coupe's performance with a sport button that quickens throttle response and improves handling. The Convenience package adds bi-Xenon headlights, auto-dimming mirrors, and automatic climate control. Stand-alone options include a wide array of wheels, upgraded upholstery, variety of power-adjustable comfort and sport seats, ceramic composite brakes, double-clutch automated manual transmission, and a manual-locking rear differential.
Under the Hood
The Porsche Cayman base model is fitted with a 2.9-liter 6-cylinder engine rated at 265 horsepower, while the Cayman S trim comes with a 3.4-liter 6-cylinder engine rated at 320 horsepower. The Cayman S Black Edition and R model are both equipped with a tuned version of the same 3.4-liter engine in the S model that produces 330 horsepower. Every Cayman is rear-wheel drive and comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission.

EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Porsche Cayman are:
- Cayman: 19-20/27-29/22-24 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Cayman S: 19-20/26-29/22-23 mpg
- Cayman S Black Edition and R: 19-20/27-29/22-23 mpg
Safety
Standard safety features on the Porsche Cayman include side air bags, side curtain air bags, and anti-lock brakes.
To date, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have tested the 2012 Porsche Cayman.
