Exterior Features
The redesigned 2013 Porsche Boxster is a 2-seat convertible sports car offered in standard Boxster and Boxster S model series.

The roadster's soft convertible top can be opened or closed in less than 10 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph, according to Porsche, and includes a heated glass rear window. Heated power exterior mirrors, heated washer-jet nozzles, and rain-sensing wipers are also standard on the 2013 Boxster, and the side window glass is water repellent.

The Boxster is equipped with staggered-width 18-inch aluminum wheels with performance tires, and the rear spoiler automatically extends and retracts depending on vehicle speed. Unique 19-inch wheels, red-painted brake calipers, bi-xenon headlights, and dual exhaust outlets tell the Boxster S apart from the standard model.

Interior Features
The 2013 Porsche Boxster is equipped with standard Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming, one-touch power windows, cruise control, trip computer, universal garage door opener, and air conditioning with an active carbon filter. The 4-speaker sound system is equipped with a 7-inch touch screen, CD/MP3 player, and an auxiliary audio input jack. A sports steering wheel and sports seats are standard, the seats equipped with manual height adjustment and power backrest adjustment. Boxster S models add a silver tachometer face.

The Boxster offers two trunks, one in the front of the car, and one in the back behind the engine. The front trunk measures 5.3 cubic feet, while the rear trunk can accommodate up to 5.6 cubic feet of luggage.

Optional Features
In addition to a variety of paint colors, wheel selections, and interior materials including leather seats and extended leather treatments for the cabin, the 2013 Boxster is offered with a number of options.

Starting with upgrades to the car's performance and handling, Porsche offers a Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system with Normal and Sport modes, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) with yellow brake calipers, Sport Chrono package (dynamic transmission mounts, launch control, PDK "racing track" shift mapping), and Power Steering Plus, which provides low-effort steering at low speeds for easier parking and maneuvering.

Options related to comfort and convenience include a dual-zone automatic climate control system, LED ambient cabin lighting, a choice between a multi-function steering wheel and a SportDesign steering wheel, heated steering wheel, heated seats, and ventilated seats.

The Boxster can be optioned with Sports Seats Plus (more bolstering), Adaptive Sports Seats Plus (18-way power adjustment, heating, ventilation, power steering column adjustment), and a Comfort Memory package (14-way power front seats, power steering column adjustment).

On the technology front, the Boxster is available with a Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system (navigation, USB/iPod connection), Sound Package Plus (185-watt premium sound system), and a 445-watt surround-sound audio system. Bi-xenon headlights with a Porsche Dynamic Lighting System (PDLS) are also optional, along with power-folding side mirrors and a parking-assistant system.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Porsche Boxster is equipped with a 2.7-liter, horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine generating 265 horsepower at 6,700 rpm and 206 lb.-ft. of torque between 4,500 rpm and 6,500 rpm. The engine is mounted in the middle of the chassis directly behind the seats, is constructed of aluminum, and features direct fuel injection as well as an automatic stop/start system and a "coasting" function designed to improve fuel economy.

The Boxster S model is more powerful, due to a 3.4-liter, horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine delivering 315 horsepower at 6,700 rpm and 266 lb.-ft. of torque between 4,500 rpm and 5,800 rpm. This performance-tuned variant also comes with larger brakes.

Both Boxster variants are equipped with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. A 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) automated manual gearbox is optional. A Sport button is standard, deactivating the automatic stop/start and "coasting" functions while sharpening powertrain characteristics for livelier response.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Porsche Boxster are:

  • Boxster with manual transmission: 20/30/24 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Boxster PDK: 22/32/26 mpg
  • Boxster S with manual transmission: 20/28/23 mpg
  • Boxster S PDK: 21/30/24 mpg

Safety
The 2013 Porsche Boxster is equipped with 4 standard air bags, the side-impact air bags offering protection for both the head and thorax. The car's 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes are ventilated and cross-drilled at each corner, clamped by 4-piston calipers and featuring brake assist and brake pre-fill technologies. The Boxster is also equipped with a standard traction and stability control system, and pop-up rollover bars that deploy in the event of a rollover accident.

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the 2013 Porsche Boxster as this overview is written.
