Introduction
Designed and built in the United States, the Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck that competes against the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ford F-150, GMC Sierra 1500, Ram 1500, and Toyota Tundra. In terms of its design, the Titan is the oldest full-size truck for sale today, dating back to the 2004 model year. A redesigned Titan is due soon, and Nissan has already confirmed that it will offer an optional Cummins turbo-diesel engine on the new version.

Models and Features
For 2014, the Nissan Titan is offered in (extended) King Cab and 4-door Crew Cab body styles, with a choice between rear-wheel and 4-wheel drive (2WD and 4WD). King Cab models are available in S, SV, and PRO-4X trim levels. To this roster, the Crew Cab adds a luxury-themed SL trim level. If you're seeking a long-bed truck, the Titan offers one, but only with a Crew Cab and the SV trim level.

Speaking of the Titan SV, it upgrades the Titan S with power exterior mirrors, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, a better stereo, trip computer, illuminated visor vanity mirrors, premium seat cloth, and upgraded interior trim. Additional enhancements include chrome bumpers, a chrome grille, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, sliding rear window, side step rails, locking tailgate with dampened assist, and 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in raised-white-letter tires. This version of the Titan also supplies a vehicle security system with an immobilizer.

The Titan SL is a luxury-oriented truck, available only in Crew Cab format. It features fake wood interior trim, leather seats, power-adjustable and heated captain's chairs up front, a fold-flat front passenger's seat, power-adjustable pedals, and memory for the driver's settings. The Titan SL is also equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control with rear air vents, a universal garage door opener, auto-dimming rearview mirror with a compass, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob. A NissanConnect touch-screen infotainment system is also standard, and includes a premium audio system, satellite radio, Pandora Internet radio, Bluetooth connectivity and streaming audio capability, hands-free text messaging capability, a USB port, navigation system, and a reversing camera.

Additionally, the Titan SL is equipped with rear park-assist sensors, a factory-applied spray-in bedliner, Utili-track cargo-management system for the truck's bed, locking bedside storage, 120-volt power outlet for the bed, tailgate illumination, and towing preparation equipment. The SL also features additional chrome trim for the truck's exterior, power-folding and auto-dimming side mirrors with puddle lighting and turn signal indicators, automatic headlights, fog lights, and 20-inch aluminum wheels.

The Titan PRO-4X is Nissan's off-road-ready model, equipped with 4WD and a unique look that includes body-color bumpers, a Satin Chrome grille, gray-painted aluminum wheels, and all-terrain tires. Additionally, the PRO-4X features revised transmission gearing, an electronic-locking rear differential, upgraded shocks, tow hooks, and skid plates. Additional equipment, beyond what comes with the Titan SV, includes automatic headlights, fog lights, splash guards, locking bedside storage, a reversing camera, and rear park-assist sensors.

Inside, the PRO-4X is equipped with front captain's chairs wrapped in unique 2-tone fabric with white exposed stitching, a fold-flat front passenger's seat, power driver's seat, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, radio with a color information display, auto-dimming rearview mirror with a compass, and white-faced gauges.

Options and Packages
In addition to a lengthy list of dealer-installed options, Nissan offers numerous extra-cost packages for the Titan that upgrade the truck with equipment from more expensive trim levels. In particular, the Titan SV is offered with several packages that can quickly raise the truck's price tag. Choose the Titan SL or PRO-4X with a Crew Cab and the truck can be fitted with a power sunroof and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.

Under the Hood
Every 2014 Titan is equipped with an E85-compatible, 5.6-liter V-8 engine that makes 317 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 385 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,400 rpm. The Titan's 5-speed automatic transmission includes a tow/haul mode, and when this truck is properly configured it can tow up to 9,500 lbs. and haul a payload weighing as much as 2,153 lbs.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the 2014 Titan is rated to get 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway with 2WD. Add the optional 4WD system and those figures drop to 12 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.

Safety Ratings and Technology
As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the 2014 Titan for crash-test performance. Safety-related systems include an available reversing camera and rear park-assist sensors.
