What Changed for 2008:

  • New off-road-oriented PRO-4X model

  • New long-wheelbase body style

  • Revised front end

  • Newly available Bluetooth cell phone link

  • 20-inch wheels now standard on LE model
Nissan entered the full-size pickup market with the Titan in 2004. For 2008, Nissan adds a long-wheelbase body style and a new off-road-oriented model called PRO-4X. Short- and long-wheelbase Titans are offered in extended-cab King Cab and Crew Cab configurations. Both have four doors. The King Cab's rear doors don't open independently of the fronts, but they do open 168 degrees. Short-wheelbase models have a 78-inch bed with the King Cab and a 66-inch bed with the Crew Cab. Long-wheelbase bed lengths are 8 feet with the King Cab and 7 feet with the Crew Cab. The base seating configuration includes a front bench seat with a column-mounted shifter that allows seating for 6. Front bucket seats and a floor shifter are offered that reduce seating capacity to 5. The bottom of the rear bench seat folds up to create storage space. All Crew Cab models have reclining rear seats and a power rear bed access window.

Model Lineup
Four distinct models are offered on the 2008 Nissan Titan: XE, SE, PRO-4X and LE. All are offered with rear- or 4-wheel drive (4WD) except the PRO-4X, which only comes with 4WD. Standard on XE models are a front-row 40/20/40 bench seat; column shifter; cloth upholstery; AM/FM stereo with CD player; air conditioning; tilt steering wheel; split folding rear bench seat; and 18-inch steel wheels. SE models add first-row bucket seats; floor shifter; alloy wheels; AM/FM stereo with 6-disc CD player and auxiliary input; remote keyless entry; heated power outside mirrors; fold-flat front passenger seat; and a theft-deterrent system. PRO-4X models have all-terrain tires; Rancho performance shocks; lower final drive ratio (to 3.357); skid plates on the oil pan and transfer case; electronic-locking rear differential; unique gauges; fog lights; automatic headlights; splash guards; lockable bedside storage box; and special interior and exterior trim. LE models are the most fully equipped, with 350-watt Rockford Fosgate premium sound; 20-inch alloy wheels; leather upholstery; heated front seats; 8-way power driver seat with memory; 6-way power passenger seat; dual-zone automatic climate control; auto-dimming rear-view mirror; power-adjustable pedals; universal garage door opener; Utili-Track Bed Channel System with tie downs; bedside storage box; spray-in bedliner; and tow hooks. Available options include a sunroof, navigation system, rear DVD entertainment, XM satellite radio, Bluetooth hands-free cell phone link, and a towing package.

The only engine offered on the 2008 Nissan Titan is a 5.6-liter V-8 that makes 317 hp and 385 lb.-ft. of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is estimated at 12 mpg city/17 mpg highway. The Titan is offered as a FlexFuel Vehicle at no charge, which means it can run on E85, a mixture of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. With E85, 2WD Titans get 9 mpg city/13 mpg highway and 4WD models get 9 mpg city/12 mpg highway. Nissan's powertrain warranty is 5 years or 60,000 miles with roadside assistance for 3 years or 36,000 miles. Titan's 4WD system is a part-time setup that should not be driven on dry pavement. It includes a 2-speed transfer case for low-range gearing. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) are standard, and traction control and stability control are available. The Titan uses a double-wishbone independent front suspension and a leaf-spring solid axle rear suspension.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), short-wheelbase models of the 2008 Nissan Titan receive a 5-star rating for the driver in frontal impacts and a 4-star rating for the front passenger in frontal impacts. Rear-drive short-wheelbase models receive a 4-star rating for rollover resistance and 4WD short-wheelbase models receive a 3-star rating for rollover resistance. ABS with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution are standard, as are dual-stage front air bags and active front head restraints. Seat-mounted front side air bags and side curtain air bags that have rollover sensors and cover both seating rows are available in a package for SE, PRO-4X and LE. This package also includes stability control. Traction control is standard on LE and all 4WD models, and is optional on XE and SE 2WD models.

The available Bluetooth wireless cell phone link allows calls on Bluetooth-enabled cell phones to be played over the vehicle's speakers. The navigation system uses GPS technology and a DVD with map information to track the vehicle's position and issue directions. The rear DVD entertainment system comes with an 8-inch screen (up from 7 inches in 2007) and two sets of headphones for rear-seat passengers. Nissan's Utili-Track tie-down channel system has five "C" cross-section rails in the bed (two in the floor, one on each bed side rail and one on the bed header panel). Removable utility cleats are provided to slide into the channels and act as cargo tie-down points. The bed also has four standard stake pickets. A lockable bedside storage compartment is available, located behind the driver's-side rear wheel. Nissan says the Titan's available spray-in bedliner helps prevent scratch damage and corrosion.
