Overview

What's New for 2013:

  • Lighter but roomier than the previous model
  • 130-horsepower 4-cylinder engine
  • Next-generation Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT)
  • Available NissanConnect technology

Exterior Features
The 2013 Nissan Sentra is available in S, SV, SR, and SL trim levels. The SR is the sportiest version and the SL provides luxury-oriented upgrades. Dimensionally larger than the model it replaces, yet about 150 pounds lighter, according to Nissan, the new 2013 Sentra features standard LED running lights, LED taillights, power-adjustable side mirrors, and a 15.1-cubic-foot trunk.

Interior Features
In standard S trim, the new 2013 Nissan Sentra includes air conditioning, power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and a stereo with a CD player. The height-adjustable seat faces electroluminescent gauges and is surrounded by soft-touch materials on the driver's side armrest and the dashboard. A 60/40-split folding rear seat maximizes cargo- and passenger-carrying capacity.

Optional Features
Additional features are available with the selection of a higher trim level. The 2013 Nissan Sentra SV adds a continuously variable transmission (CVT), cruise control, 6-speaker stereo, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, upgraded cloth and door trim, and a vehicle security system.

The 2013 Sentra SR is styled to be the sportiest version of the model lineup, adding unique front and rear styling elements including fog lights, mesh grille insert, and a rear spoiler. Side sill extensions are also standard, and the Sentra SR rides on 17-inch aluminum wheels. Silver interior trim and premium sport cloth upholstery further differentiate the Sentra SR from other trims.

The 2013 Nissan Sentra SL is the most expensive version of this new compact sedan. The Sentra SL is based on the Sentra SV, adding 17-inch aluminum wheels (different from those on the Sentra SR), fog lights, automatic headlights, heated exterior mirrors with LED turn signal indicators embedded into the outer housings, and Nissan's Easy Fill Tire technology. Inside, the Sentra SL is trimmed with imitation maple wood, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. The SL trim also includes Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate control, Nissan Intelligent Key keyless entry and push-button ignition, and a color radio display with a USB port and satellite radio.

Additional options for the 2013 Sentra are dependent on the trim level, and include leather seats that are heated in front, power sunroof, Bose premium audio system, reversing camera, and NissanConnect technology with a navigation system.

Available as an option, NissanConnect with Navigation adds a 5.8-inch color touch screen, navigation system, and real-time traffic and weather reporting to the Sentra SV, SR and SL. NissanConnect also includes a hands-free text-messaging assistant, Bluetooth audio streaming, Pandora Internet radio, Google POI search, and more.

Under the Hood
A new 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine is installed in every version of the 2013 Sentra, generating 130 horsepower and 128 lb.-ft. of torque. The base Sentra S is equipped with a standard 6-speed manual transmission. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is optional on the Sentra S and standard on all other trims.

Nissan will offer an FE+ (Fuel Economy Plus) option for the Sentra S and SV, but the automaker does not predict how the addition of this feature will impact fuel economy estimates.

Fuel Economy
As this model overview is written, the EPA has not published official fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Nissan Sentra. According to Nissan, the new Sentra will return 30/39/34 mpg (city/highway/combined) with the CVT.

Safety
Every 2013 Nissan Sentra is equipped with 6 air bags, front disc/rear drum anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, and a traction and stability control system. A reversing camera is optional.

As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the crashworthiness of the 2013 Nissan Sentra.
