What's New for 2014:

  • CrossCabriolet model returns for 2014
  • Graphite interior offered with Tinted Bronze paint

The 2014 Nissan Murano is a midsize crossover SUV available in a traditional configuration with seating for 5 people or as a 2-door, 4-passenger convertible model called the CrossCabriolet. It competes against the Ford Edge, GMC Terrain, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Jeep Cherokee, Subaru Outback, and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Models and Features
The 2014 Murano is sold in S, SV, SL, and LE trim levels with a choice between front- or all-wheel drive (FWD or AWD). The CrossCabriolet is available in a single level of specification and in a limited number of colors.

Highlights from the Murano S model's standard equipment list include 18-inch aluminum wheels, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, and LED taillights. Inside, the Murano S has a height-adjustable driver's seat, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, Nissan Intelligent Key with push-button starting, CD changer, and an auxiliary audio input jack. The cabin is also equipped with welcome lighting, mood lighting, and genuine aluminum trim.

The Murano SV adds fog lights, automatic headlights, and roof rails on the outside, while the interior is upgraded with Bluetooth connectivity, power front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, satellite radio, USB port, auto-dimming rearview mirror, universal garage door opener, and a reversing camera.

The Murano SL has leather upholstery, heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, memory settings for the driver's seat, dual-pane power sunroof, premium audio system, power liftgate, auto-return rear seatback assists, and rain-sensing wipers.

The Murano LE includes these features plus a power tilt-and-telescoping and heated steering wheel with memory, heated rear seats, wood interior trim, bi-xenon headlights, and 20-inch aluminum wheels. CrossCabriolet models include LE equipment, adding a unique wheel design, power convertible top with a glass rear window, pop-up automatic roll bars, and a setting for the stereo that adjusts amplification depending on whether the top is up or down.

Options and Packages
Choose the Murano S, and upgrades are limited to what the dealership offers, including items such as Bluetooth connectivity, floor mats, cargo cover, cargo mat, LED ambient cabin lighting, LED running lights, splash guards, bumper protector, towing equipment, and a first aid kit. You can even get a tent designed to attach to the Murano's liftgate.

These dealer-installed options can be added to other Murano trim levels, including the SV, which is also available with a Value package containing a navigation system with traffic and weather reports, premium audio system with Bluetooth streaming audio capability, and a power rear liftgate.

The Murano SL is available with a Navigation package that includes the navigation system offered on the SV trim level plus a blind-spot detection system, lane-departure warning system, and a moving-object detection system. A Platinum package is available for the Murano LE, and it includes the contents of the SL trim's Navigation package plus unique 7-spoke, 20-inch wheels and a stainless steel rear bumper protector.

CrossCabriolet buyers can add a navigation system with Bluetooth streaming audio to their new convertible, as well as a reduced number of dealer-installed extras appropriate to this style of vehicle.

Under the Hood
The Murano is equipped with a 260-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive is standard, with an AWD system available as an option.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the 2014 Nissan Murano is rated to get between 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway depending on body style and drivetrain, with CrossCabriolet models proving slightly less fuel-efficient than their traditional SUV counterparts.

Safety Ratings and Technology
In crash testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the traditional 2014 Murano receives an overall rating of 4 stars (out of 5 stars). Note that in the frontal-impact crash-test, the Murano rated 3 stars for front passenger protection. As this overview is written, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not rated crash-test performance for the 2014 Murano, and the NHTSA has not rated the CrossCabriolet variant.

All versions of the 2014 Murano except for the S trim level come with a standard reversing camera, while rain-sensing wipers are standard for the SL, LE and CrossCabriolet. A blind-spot detection system, lane-departure warning system, and a moving-object detection system are optional for the Murano SL and standard for the LE and CrossCabriolet.
