Introduction
The 2014 Nissan Juke is a uniquely styled, 5-passenger front-wheel-drive (FWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) crossover powered by a standard turbocharged engine. Competitors include the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Jeep Compass, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Subaru XV Crosstrek, Toyota RAV4, and the Volkswagen Tiguan.

Models and Features
Like other Nissan models, the 2014 Juke is offered in S, SV, and SL trim levels. Base S models feature Bluetooth connectivity, 17-inch alloy wheels, power tilt/slide moonroof, 6-speaker sound system with iPod compatibility, cruise control, keyless entry, and the usual array of power amenities. A move up to the mid-level Juke SV adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear privacy glass, power-adjustable outside mirrors, upgraded suede-like cloth upholstery, USB port and satellite radio service, automatic climate control, and push-button start. From there, the SL keeps things rolling with its standard automatic headlights and fog lights, leather upholstery, heated front seats, premium sound system, 5-inch touch-screen navigation system, and a rearview camera.

Designers have differentiated the 2014 Nissan Juke Nismo variant with unique 18-inch alloy wheels, tinted headlight housings and LED accents, distinct grille and lower body panels, rear spoiler, sport bucket seats fitted with Nismo-specific fabric, and a special shift knob. In terms of standard features, the Nismo largely mimics the Juke SV trim level.

Options and Packages
Available exclusively on the 2014 Juke S is a Midnight Edition package consisting of black exterior trim, dark-tinted privacy glass, and black alloy wheels. Nissan also offers a Sport package for Juke SV and SL variants that includes a color-keyed rear spoiler, specific 17-inch alloy wheels, and stainless steel exhaust tips.

Rounding out the selection of Juke options is a Navigation package offered on SV models. It features the 5-inch touch-screen unit with real-time traffic information, as well as the SL's premium sound system and rearview camera.

Under the Hood
Nissan equips most 2014 Juke models with a turbocharged, direct-injection, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 188 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque. Buyers have the choice of a 6-speed manual gearbox or continuously variable transmission (CVT), as well as FWD or AWD capability.

All of those parts are also available on the high-performance Juke Nismo model, though the engine has been tweaked to deliver 197 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. Engineers complement the extra muscle under the hood with retuned steering and suspension systems.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2014 Nissan Juke are:
  • Juke FWD with 6-speed manual transmission: 25/31/27 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Juke FWD with CVT: 27/32/29 mpg
  • Juke AWD with CVT: 25/30/27 mpg

Safety and Ratings
In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2014 Nissan Juke received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2014 Nissan Juke received a rating of "Good"--the Institute's highest--for moderate overlap front-impact protection.

Nissan addresses Juke safety with 6 air bags, front active head restraints, 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution, and an available rearview camera.
