What's New for 2014:

  • Turquoise exterior paint color

The 2014 Nissan Cube is a boxy, 5-passenger front-wheel-drive (FWD) car classified as a small station wagon by the EPA. Competitors include hatchback or 5-door versions of the Chevrolet Sonic, Ford Fiesta, and Hyundai Accent, as well as others including the Scion xD and even Nissan's own Versa Note.

Models and Features
The 2014 Nissan Cube lineup is divided into two trim levels: S and SL. Regardless of trim, the list of standard features includes a tilt-adjustable leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated Bluetooth and audio controls, power-adjustable outside mirrors, height-adjustable driver's seat and 60/40 split-folding rear seat, and iPod compatibility.

The S is available with a 6-speed manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT), whereas the SL is only offered with the CVT. The SL is also upgraded with automatic climate control, push-button start, automatic headlights, and 16-inch alloy wheels in lieu of the S model's 15-inch steel rims.

Options and Packages
There are not a lot of extras available for the 2014 Cube, and the few that are can only be found within the SL Preferred package. Among the upgrades are a 5-inch touch-screen navigation system with an integrated rearview camera, and a premium audio system with satellite radio capability (required subscription not included) and a USB port.

Under the Hood
Drivers of the 2014 Nissan Cube will be working with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 122 horsepower and 127 lb.-ft. of torque. Output is managed by the 6-speed manual gearbox or CVT.

Other mechanical elements include electric power steering and a suspension system comprised of front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion-beam setup.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2014 Nissan Cube are:
  • Cube with 6-speed manual transmission: 25/30/27 mpg (city/hwy./combined)
  • Cube with CVT: 27/31/28 mpg

Safety and Ratings
As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the crashworthiness of the 2014 Nissan Cube.

A limited-slip differential, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, and a stability control system are designed to help prevent an accident in the 2014 Cube. Should an accident occur, 6 air bags help protect passengers.
