The Nissan Cube, which makes its U.S. debut for the 2009 model year, is just about what it sounds like. It's an economical 4-door hatchback with unique styling features, and with a distinctive angular profile. Mechanically and performance-wise, it's very similar to the Nissan Versa, but the Cube offers off-beat colors and touches not seen on any other Nissan model (or any other make, for that matter).
Four trim levels are available on the 2009 Nissan Cube. The base Cube model features 15-inch wheels, keyless entry, air conditioning, and a 2-speaker sound system, while the Cube S trim adds cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, 4-speaker sound system, and upgraded cloth upholstery. The Cube SL trim provides 16-inch alloy wheels and adds automatic climate control, headlights, and footlights. The SL also offers a Preferred option package that includes a premium 6-speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system, and a Ginormous package that enhances the interior and exterior styling. The top-of-the-line Cube Krom trim adds all the Preferred options as standard equipment, plus a rear spoiler, upgraded bumpers and grille, upgraded interior trim, and 20-color interior ambient lighting. Many of its features are available as options on other trim levels. Several other dealer-installed styling features, the like of which won't be seen on other cars, are also optional.
The standard powertrain in the 2009 Nissan Cube consists of a 122-horsepower, 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is available on the two lower trims, and standard on the Cube SL and Krom trims. With the CVT, the EPA estimates that the Cube will deliver 28 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
Standard safety features on the 2009 Nissan Cube include anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, active front head restraints, front side air bags, side curtain air bags, and, on the upper trims, a rearview camera.
