What's New for 2014:

  • Carried over unchanged
  • All-new redesign expected for 2015 model year

The 2014 Nissan Armada is a full-size, 3-row SUV available in three trim levels and offering seating for up to 8 occupants. Competitors include the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition, GMC Yukon, and Toyota Sequoia.

Models and Features
Positioned as the base model, the Armada SV--available in 2-wheel-drive (2WD) and 4-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations--is well equipped with features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, power driver seat with 8-way adjustment, Bluetooth connectivity, and dual-zone climate control. On top of that, 4WD versions add an 11-speaker premium sound system, power liftgate, tow package, and a rearview camera.

The SV is followed by the mid-level Nissan Armada SL, which serves as host to upgrades including 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior trim, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and push-button start.

Shoppers looking for the most luxurious of 2014 Armadas will want to direct their attention to the top-of-the-line Platinum trim level. Among the amenities differentiating this trim level from the SV and SL are power-folding turn signal mirrors, power tilt/slide moonroof, heated second-row seats, navigation system, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

Options and Packages
Nissan offers a variety of bundled options for the 2014 Armada, including Driver and SV Tow packages that add the 4WD SV's extra features to its 2WD counterpart. There's also a Moonroof package for the SL.

Since Platinum models are essentially fully equipped in their standard form, there's not a lot left in terms of options, save for second-row captain's chairs that drop seating capacity to seven, and a special Reserve package comprised of dark chrome accents and a unique 2-tone interior.

Under the Hood
All 2014 Nissan Armadas are equipped with a 5.6-liter V-8 engine that delivers 317 horsepower and 385 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard. Buyers who opt for either the SL or Platinum version get a rear self-leveling air suspension.

Thanks to its powertrain and rugged body-on-frame architecture, the Armada is capable of towing up to 9,000 lbs.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2014 Nissan Armada are:
  • Armada RWD: 13/19/15 mpg (city/hwy./combined)
  • Armada 4WD: 12/18/14 mpg

Safety and Ratings
As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the crashworthiness of the 2014 Nissan Armada.

In addition to standard safety items including 6 air bags and 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, most configurations feature a rearview camera, while front park-assist sensors are reserved exclusively for the Platinum trim level. Increasingly common options found in today's modern vehicles, such as blind-spot monitoring and trailer sway control, are not available.
