Overview

What's New for 2013:

  • Redesigned for 2013
  • Bigger, lighter, faster, and more fuel efficient
  • Safety and infotainment technology

Exterior Features
Six different configurations are available for the 5-passenger Nissan Altima sedan: S, SV and SL trim levels, each paired with one of the two available engines. Depending on which trim level you choose, you'll get a basic 4-door family car with 16-inch steel wheels or a luxuriously outfitted sedan with 18-inch wheels. Trunk space, at 15.4 cubic feet, is average for models in this size class.

Interior Features
The new 2013 Altima is roomier than before, due to a wider stance. Standard equipment for the least-expensive Altima 2.5 S trim includes a power driver's seat, Intelligent Key push-button ignition, and Bluetooth connectivity with streaming audio.

Optional Features
Moving up to the 2.5 SV trim, the Altima is equipped with 17-inch aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, reversing camera, and an upgraded sound system with a USB/iPod connection and satellite radio. The Altima SV also includes new Nissan Connect technology, which provides speech-to-text messaging capability, the ability to stream Pandora Internet radio, and access to Google point-of-interest (POI) search through the touch screen. A voice-activated navigation system with live traffic information is optional on the SV.

The top-of-the-line Altima 2.5 SL adds leather upholstery, 8-way power driver's seat, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, power sunroof, and an upgraded Bose premium sound system.

Under the Hood
A new 182-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard on the 2013 Altima 2.5. According to Nissan, it'll accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than 7.2 seconds. The Altima 3.5 is equipped with a 270-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine. Both engines drive the Altima's front wheels through a new Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). Altima 3.5 models include paddle shifters on the steering wheel for manual control of "stepped" transmission ratios engineered to feel like traditional gears.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Nissan Altima Sedan are:

  • Altima Sedan 2.5: 27/38/31 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Altima Sedan 3.5: 22/31/25 mpg

Safety
The 2013 Nissan Altima Sedan is equipped with 6 air bags, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, traction control, stability control, and a tire-pressure monitor that displays the pressure for each individual wheel and, when the driver adds more air, signals when they're properly inflated by honking the horn.

The Altima SL models can be upgraded with a blind-spot monitoring system, lane-departure warning and Moving Object Alert. Moving Object Alert provides a warning when the car is reversing and another car or a pedestrian is approaching from the side.

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2013 Altima Sedan as this overview is written.
