Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Nissan Altima is a midsize sedan, and is offered in three different trim levels. Each is sold in both 2- and 4-door body styles. Sixteen-inch steel wheels are standard, with larger alloy wheels available in upper trim levels.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Nissan Altima offers seating for up to 5 passengers. Base Altimas feature cloth upholstery, air conditioning, full power accessories, and cruise control. Upgraded Altimas are fitted with standard keyless entry, one-touch windows, leather upholstery, and more.
Optional FeaturesNissan has bundled most of the Altima's options into packages, including Special Edition, Convenience, Convenience Plus, Premium Audio, and Technology.
Under the HoodNissan Altimas are fitted with one of two standard engines. Base Altimas feature a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 175 horsepower. The optional engine is a 3.5-liter V-6 rated at 270 horsepower. Each engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission. The 6-cylinder Altima is fitted with adaptive shift control for faster shifting. All Altima models are front-wheel drive.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Nissan Altima are:
- Nissan Altima with 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine: 23/32 mpg (city/highway)
- Nissan Altima with 3.5-liter V-6 engine: 20/27 mpg (city/highway)
SafetyStandard safety features of note on the 2012 Nissan Altima include side curtain air bags, active head restraints, and front seat belt pre-tensioners. In government crash tests, the 2012 Nissan Altima received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Altima sedan received a "Good" rating-the Institute's highest-for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection. Roof strength results were "Acceptable."
