Exterior Features
The Mitsubishi Galant is expected to go out of production after the 2012 model year. Having been introduced in the 1990s as a compact car, the Galant has evolved into a popularly priced 5-passenger midsize sedan with some luxury features. The Galant is offered with front-wheel drive and available in two trim levels--the ES and the SE. The ES trim features 16-inch wheels, and the SE upgrades to 18-inch alloy wheels.

Interior Features
The 2012 Mitsubishi Galant ES provides some power accessories, manual air conditioning, cruise control, cloth upholstery, and a 6-speaker sound system. The SE features a sunroof, premium cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, heated front seats, additional power accessories, navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 9-speaker sound system with satellite radio. Trunk capacity is 13.3 cubic feet.

Optional Features
Options on the Mitsubishi Galant include leather upholstery, packaged with a rear spoiler, remote start, and iPod interface.

Under the Hood
The 2012 Mitsubishi Galant is fitted with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 160 horsepower and 157 lb.-ft. of torque. A 4-speed automatic transmission is standard.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Mitsubishi Galant are 30/38/33 mpg (city/highway/combined).

Safety
Standard safety features on the 2012 Mitsubishi Galant include anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, front-seat side air bags, and overhead curtain air bags. A reversing camera is standard on the SE trim.

In government tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Mitsubishi Galant received 4 (out of 5) stars for rollover protection. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Galant received "Good" ratings--the Institute's highest--for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection and an "Acceptable" rating for roof strength.
