Overview

The Mitsubishi Galant is a front-wheel-drive, midsize 4-door sedan. It loses its V-6 engine option in 2010, eliminating much of its sporting potential. But the automaker has updated the 4-cylinder engine for improved efficiency, added standard stability control, and revised the option packages for 2010.

The Mitsubishi Galant underwent an extensive redesign for the 2009 model year, so the 2010 model is basically a carryover. The Galant is a 5-passenger midsize sedan, with added safety features and touches of luxury at the upper trim levels. The V-6 engine available in previous years is no longer offered. The Galant's main competitors include the Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Malibu, and the Honda Accord.

The 2010 Mitsubishi Galant is available in two trim levels, both with front-wheel drive. The base Galant ES trim features 16-inch wheels, cruise control, manual air conditioning, cloth upholstery, and a 6-speaker sound system. The SE trim features 18-inch alloy wheels, premium cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, heated front seats, more power controls, navigation system, 9-speaker sound system, and Bluetooth connectivity. Options include leather upholstery, remote ignition, and an iPod interface. The trunk offers 13.3 cubic feet of cargo space, according to Mitsubishi.

The sole power plant for the 2010 Mitsubishi Galant is a 160-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 157 lb.-ft. of torque. It works with a 4-speed automatic transmission and delivers 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Standard safety features on the 2010 Mitsubishi Galant include 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, stability control, traction control, front side air bags, and overhead curtain air bags. A backup camera is optional with the SE trim. In government crash tests, the NHTSA gave the Galant 5 out of 5 stars for front-passenger protection and 4 stars for driver protection in front-impact tests, and 5 stars across the board in side-impact tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Galant its highest-possible "Good" overall ratings in frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests.
