Overview

The Sprinter is Mercedes-Benz's cargo van, albeit a slightly upscale version. It's a diesel-powered industrial-grade workhorse that's available as a conventional van, or in several variations.

One trim level of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is offered, but in configurations geared to various uses, from strictly a hauler to a multi-passenger transporter. The Cargo Van is the basic model, and features two front seats and an empty cargo bay. The Crew Van adds a 3-person rear bench; the Passenger Van offers seating for 12; the MiniBus is longer, and can seat 15. Wheelbases range from 144 inches to 170 inches. All configurations come with either a 96-inch or a 108-inch roof height. Finally, a heavy-duty version of the Cargo Van, the 3500, is available.

Standard features on the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter include 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, power accessories, a basic radio, and rear doors that can open to 270 degrees. Towing capacity, depending on trim selection, can go as high as 5375 pounds, according to Mercedes, and maximum payload can be as high as 3469 pounds. Depending on the model, total cargo space can range from 318 cubic feet to 547 cubic feet. Fuel capacity is 26.4 gallons.

The standard power plant on the rear-wheel-drive 2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a 188-horsepower, 3.0-liter, turbocharged, V-6 diesel engine that produces 325 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard.

Standard safety features on the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter include anti-lock brakes and electronic stability and traction control. Aside from the front air bags, other air bags are optional, as are a rearview camera and backing-up alarm. Cornering lights and daytime running lights are also optional.
