Exterior Features

Standard equipment includes an AMG sport body kit, LED running lights, rain-sensing wipers, power heated exterior mirrors with a power folding feature, rear spoiler, and AMG staggered-width 18-inch aluminum wheels wearing performance tires.

Interior Features
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG is differentiated from the SLK250 and SLK350 by its IWC Ingenieur dashtop analog clock modeled after a high-end sports watch, AMG floor mats, and AMG premium leather seats with exposed stitching.

Otherwise, the standard equipment mirrors the SLK350. That means the SLK55 AMG is equipped with aluminum cabin accents, flat-bottom power sport steering wheel with power tilt/telescoping operation and shift paddles, 8-way power front sport seats with memory, manual air conditioning, AirScarf neck-heating system, and remote operation of the power-retractable hardtop. The SLK55 AMG also includes Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming capability, Mbrace 2 telematics system, and a premium surround-sound audio system with HD Radio, satellite radio, USB port, iPod/MP3 interface, and an auxiliary audio input jack. A universal garage door opener and auto-dimming rearview mirrors are also standard on this sports car.

Like other SLK models, the 2013 Mercedes SLK55 AMG holds 10.1 cubic feet of cargo with the top raised and 6.4 cubic feet of cargo with the top lowered.

Optional Features
Mercedes offers several option packages for the 2013 SLK55 AMG. The Multimedia package adds a voice-controlled navigation system with real-time weather and traffic reports, 10GB of hard drive music storage space with a Gracenote media database, CD/DVD changer, and an SD card reader. The Lighting package provides bi-xenon headlights with Adaptive High-beam Assist and Active Curve Illumination, and headlight washers.

An AMG Handling package is unique to the SLK55 AMG model. It adds an AMG performance suspension, AMG limited-slip rear differential, AMG performance steering wheel, and unique multi-spoke AMG aluminum wheels in silver or matte-black finish. This package also raises the top speed from 155 mph to 174 mph, according to Mercedes.

Additional extras that can be added to the SLK55 AMG include carbon fiber or hand-polished Black Ash wood interior trim, AMG illuminated doorsill plates, chrome hood fins, and a panoramic glass roof with or without Magic Sky Control. Dual-zone automatic climate control and an AirGuide wind-stop are also optional, along with front and rear park-assist sensors with Advanced Parking Guidance, Keyless Go passive entry with push-button starting, and pre-wiring for an accessory Becker Map Pilot navigation system.

Under the Hood
The SLK55 AMG is equipped with a direct-injection, 5.5-liter V-8 engine generating 416 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 398 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm. According to Mercedes, the SLK55 AMG accelerates to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and, with the optional AMG Handling package, can achieve a top speed of 174 mph.

To help conserve fuel, this engine is equipped with AMG Cylinder Management technology, which allows the car to operate in 4-cylinder mode on the highway, and ECO Stop/Start functionality, which is an automatic stop/start system that shuts the engine off when the car is idling and when the transmission is set to its "Controlled Efficiency" driving mode.

In addition to Controlled Efficiency, the AMG SpeedShift Plus 7-speed automatic transmission provides "Manual" and "Sport" driving modes. All driving modes include downshift throttle blipping, and the SLK55 AMG's steering wheel is equipped with paddle shifters. The SLK55 AMG also includes an AMG sport suspension, AMG sport exhaust, and an AMG performance braking system with torque-vectoring braking technology.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG are 19/28/22 mpg (city/highway/combined).

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG is equipped with 8 air bags, stability and traction control, and 4-wheel-disc brakes with brake assist, hill-hold assist, brake hold, panic braking preparation and brake disc drying. Rain-sensing wipers and Attention Assist drowsiness detection technology are also standard, along with Neck-Pro crash-responsive head restraints that reduce whiplash.

Safety-related options include front and rear park-assist sensors and headlights offering Active Curve Illumination and Adaptive High-beam Assist technologies.
