  • SL65 AMG trim level discontinued

    Exterior Features
    The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is a luxury 2-door convertible with a retractable hardtop available in two trim levels. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard.

    Interior Features
    The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class seats 2 passengers and provides 10.2 cubic feet of trunk space with the top up and 7.2 cubic feet with the top down. The base SL550 trim is equipped with remote roof activation, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated power seats, leather upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation system with voice control, and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The SL63 AMG is fitted with AMG-specific interior styling treatment, unique leather upholstery, and a sport steering wheel.

    Optional Features
    Mercedes-Benz offers several option packages for the SL-Class, as well as a range of stand-alone options. The SL Wheel package adds 19-inch AMG wheels, performance tires, upgraded brakes, and smoked headlight and taillight covers. On the SL63 AMG trim, the AMG Performance package adds a limited-slip differential, tuned sport suspension, unique alloy wheels, and a higher top speed. Front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and a panoramic glass roof may be added to either trim level.

    Under the Hood
    The base SL550 is fitted with a 5.5-liter V-8 engine rated at 382 horsepower, while the SL63 AMG comes with a 6.2-liter V-8 rated at 518 horsepower. Both trims are rear-wheel drive and feature a 7-speed automatic transmission.

    Fuel Economy
    EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class are
    • SL550: 14/22/17 mpg (city/highway/combined)
      • SL63 AMG: 12/19/14 mpg

        Standard safety features of note on the SL-Class include a pop-up roll bar, driver knee air bag, and side head/thorax air bags.

        To date, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have tested the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class.
