- Mercedes has announced no changes for the S63 AMG and S65 AMG models
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG and S65 AMG are equipped with lightweight 20-inch AMG aluminum wheels, AMG sport body kit, power-folding and heated exterior mirrors, bi-xenon headlights with Active Curve Illumination, automatic high-beam headlights, LED running lights, and LED taillights.Interior Features
In addition to their unique 20-inch wheels and AMG body kits, the S63 AMG and S65 AMG models are equipped with exclusive leather upholstery, front sport seats, AMG sport steering wheel, AMG cabin trim, and a bespoke gauge cluster.
Additional standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient cabin lighting, power sunroof, Keyless Go entry and push-button ignition, universal garage door opener, power rear window sunshade, and a power trunk closer. Bluetooth connectivity, a navigation system, 7.2-gigabyte music register hard drive, and a 600-watt premium surround-sound audio system with HD Radio and satellite radio are included in the standard COMAND infotainment center.Optional Features
Options for the S63 AMG include a Driver Assistance package (active cruise control, blind-spot assist, lane-keeping assist); Rear Seat package (8-way power-adjustable outboard rear seats with heating and ventilation, 4-zone automatic climate control system); and a Performance package (added horsepower and torque, 186-mph top speed, carbon fiber engine cover). Additional extras for this model include a panoramic sunroof, Night View Assist Plus with Pedestrian Detection technology, 1,200-watt Bang & Olufsen BeoSound premium audio system, split-view front-seat entertainment system, rear-seat entertainment system, power rear side window sun shades, heated steering wheel, carbon fiber and piano black lacquer interior trim, and AMG illuminated doorsill plates.
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is sold with everything as standard equipment, except for the carbon fiber interior trim, split-view front-seat entertainment system, heated steering wheel, and AMG illuminated doorsill trim.Under the Hood
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG is equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter V-8 engine producing 536 horsepower and 590 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,000 rpm and 4,500 rpm. A 7-speed AMG SpeedShift MCT sport transmission drives the rear wheels, and this engine includes an automatic stop/start system to conserve fuel while idling. An optional AMG Performance package increases engine output to 563 horsepower and 664 lb.-ft. of torque.
A twin-turbocharged, 6.0-liter V-12 engine is installed in the 2013 Mercedes S65 AMG, rated to deliver 621 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm. A 5-speed AMG SpeedShift automatic transmission drives the rear wheels.
Both AMG models have a performance-tuned version of Active Body Control suspension, high-performance braking system, and a sport exhaust system.Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG and S65 AMG are:
- S63 AMG: 15/23/18 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- S65 AMG: 12/19/14 mpg
The S63 AMG and S65 AMG models are equipped with 8 standard air bags, traction and stability control system, and a 4-wheel-disc AMG high-performance compound anti-lock braking system including brake assist, Predictive Brake Priming, brake drying, and torque-vectoring technology. These models also offer hill-start and hill-hold assist systems, rain-sensing wipers, park-assist sensors, reversing camera, and Mbrace telematics service. An Attention Assist drowsy driver detection system is standard, as well as PreSafe technology that automatically readies the vehicle for a collision by adjusting the seats and closing the windows for optimal occupant protection.
Active blind-spot assist and active lane-keeping assist systems (optional on S63 AMG) are designed to take corrective action to keep the vehicle out of harm's way if the driver does not heed warnings. Night View Assist Plus with Pedestrian Detection (optional on S63 AMG) displays an infrared image of the road ahead on a monitor embedded in the gauge cluster, and can highlight the presence of pedestrians. The Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control with Pre-Safe Brake technology (optional on S63 AMG) maintains a pre-determined distance between the S-Class and traffic ahead, and can automatically accelerate and brake the car when traveling between zero and 125 miles per hour.
As this overview is written, neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has performed crash tests on the 2013 Mercedes S-Class.
