The 2012 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a 4-door luxury SUV that is available in only one trim level, the G550. Eighteen-inch wheels and a sunroof are standard.
The Mercedes-Benz G550 seats 5 passengers and offers 45.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seat and 79.5 cubic feet with the seats folded down. Standard amenities include leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, Mercedes-Benz' COMAND electronics interface, Bluetooth connectivity, and a navigation system with voice controls. Also standard is a Harman Kardon surround-sound system that features HD radio, satellite radio, CD player, iPod interface, and digital music storage.
Mercedes-Benz offers the new Edition Select package for the G550 that includes fender flares, AMG side exhaust pipes, silver-painted wheels, leather-covered dashboard, two-tone leather upholstery, and wood trim accents. In addition, there are several Designo body paint colors, leather color, and interior accent choices available for special order.
Under the Hood
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz G550 is fitted with a 5.5-liter V-8 engine rated at 382 horsepower. Four-wheel drive and a 7-speed automatic transmission are standard on the G550, as are a limited-slip rear differential and locking front, center, and rear differentials.
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz G-Class are 12/15/13 mpg (city/highway/combined).
Standard safety features on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class include a rearview camera, side curtain air bags, and the brand's Mbrace emergency telematics.
To date, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have conducted safety tests on the 2012 Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
