The E63 AMG Wagon is equipped with a power liftgate.

Interior Features

Occupants face a dashboard trimmed with Black Ash wood, and the ceiling and roof pillars are covered in Dinamica. Exclusive AMG bits and pieces include the instrument cluster, sport steering wheel, brushed aluminum pedals with rubber studs, and the stainless steel doorsill plates.

Additionally, the E63 AMG is equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, power sunroof, Keyless Go passive entry, and a premium surround-sound audio system with a CD/DVD changer, HD Radio, and satellite radio. The E63 AMG provides owners with Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming and Mbrace 2 telematics, as well as a hard-drive navigation system with enhanced voice control and a music server with a Gracenotes media database. Additional features are enhanced ambient cabin lighting, universal garage door opener, power rear sunshade (sedan), rear side window shades (wagon), and a partition net with a luggage cover (wagon).

Optional Features
Options for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG include a Lane Tracking package (Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist); Driver Assistance package (active Blind Spot Assist, active Lane Keeping Assist, Distronic Plus active cruise control with Pre-Safe Brake); and an AMG Performance package (added horsepower and torque, 186-mph top speed, AMG performance suspension, AMG performance steering wheel, red-painted brake calipers, carbon fiber engine cover).

Premium leather, Burl Walnut wood trim, 5-spoke AMG forged aluminum wheels, AMG limited-slip rear differential, and an AMG carbon ceramic braking system are also optional for the E63 AMG. Additionally, buyers can add a panoramic sunroof (sedan), rear-seat entertainment system, rear side-impact air bags, front and rear park-assist sensors with Advanced Parking Guidance, Mercedes-Benz Apps services, and Mbrace Plus telematics service. The NightView Assist Plus with Pedestrian Detection system is also optional, helping the driver to "see" the road ahead after nightfall.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Mercedes E63 AMG is equipped with a hand-built, twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter V-8 engine delivering 518 horsepower between 5,250 rpm and 5,750 rpm, and 516 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,700 rpm and 5,000 rpm. With the optional AMG Performance package, the E63 generates 550 horsepower and 590 lb.-ft. of torque.

A 7-speed AMG SpeedShift MCT transmission with aluminum shift paddles delivers the motive force to the rear wheels. The E63 AMG offers three driving modes accessible via the AMG Drive Unit with E-Select: Controlled Efficiency, Sport, and Sport+. In Controlled Efficiency mode, an automatic stop/start system shuts the engine off when the car is idling in traffic or at an intersection in an effort to conserve fuel. In any of these modes, the driver can activate a Race Start launch control system with optimized transmission shifting. Mercedes says it takes the E63 AMG 4.2 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph.

Additional mechanical upgrades over a standard-issue E-Class include an exclusive front axle with a wider track and revised components, and an AMG Adaptive Suspension with Comfort, Sport and Sport+ settings. An AMG sport exhaust, 3-stage stability control system, and an AMG high-performance compound braking system are also standard.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Sedan and Wagon are:

  • E63 AMG Sedan: 16/24/19 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • E63 AMG Wagon: 15/23/18 mpg

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG models are equipped with 9 air bags, NeckPro head restraints, 3-stage traction and stability control system, and Pre-Safe technology that readies the vehicle for a collision by closing the sunroof and windows, properly positioning the front seats, and preparing safety systems for impact.

The E63 AMG is also equipped with ventilated and perforated compound-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, Predictive Brake Priming, automatic brake drying, brake hold, and hill-start assist features. Additionally, the E63 AMG comes standard with a reversing camera, rain-sensing wipers, and Attention Assist, a drowsy driver detection system.

Safety-related options include rear side-impact air bags, front and rear park-assist sensors, and Distronic Plus active cruise control with Pre-Safe Brake technology. Passive and active versions of Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist technologies are also optional, as well as NightView Assist Plus with Pedestrian Detection, which helps the driver to "see" ahead on dark roadways.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) calls the 2013 E-Class Sedan a "Top Safety Pick" for 2013. As this overview is written, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not performed crash tests on the 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan or Wagon.
