Exterior Features
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG and CL65 AMG models are 4-passenger, performance-tuned luxury coupes based on the Mercedes CL-Class. Standard equipment includes an AMG body kit, lightweight 20-inch AMG aluminum wheels, bi-xenon headlights with Active Curve Illumination, automatic high-beam headlights, LED running lights, LED taillights, and power-folding and heated exterior mirrors.

Interior Features
The 2013 Mercedes CL63 AMG and CL65 AMG are differentiated from other CL-Class models by exclusive leather upholstery, front heated and ventilated sport seats, AMG sport steering wheel, unique gauge cluster, and special AMG trim. The CL65 AMG also includes a heated steering wheel and a Dinamica headliner.

Additional standard features include Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient cabin lighting, power sunroof, Keyless Go entry and push-button ignition, and a COMAND infotainment system equipped with navigation, 7.2-gigabyte music register hard drive, and a 600-watt premium surround-sound audio system with satellite radio and HD Radio. A universal garage door opener, power trunk closer, and a power rear-window sunshade are also standard.

Optional Features
Options for the CL63 AMG include a Premium Package 2 (reversing camera, Night View Assist Plus with Pedestrian Detection technology, active multi-contour massaging front seats); Driver Assistance package (active cruise control, active blind-spot assist, active lane-keeping assist); and a Performance package (added horsepower and torque, 186-mph top speed, carbon fiber engine cover). Additionally, this model can be optioned with a split-view front-seat entertainment system, carbon fiber interior trim, AMG illuminated doorsill trim, and a heated steering wheel.

The CL65 AMG is equipped with everything as standard, except for a heated steering wheel, split-view front-seat entertainment system, and AMG illuminated doorsill trim.

Under the Hood
The 2013 CL63 AMG is equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter V-8 engine and a 7-speed AMG SpeedShift MCT automated manual gearbox. This engine generates 536 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 590 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,000 rpm and 4,500 rpm. With the optional Performance package, this engine is rated to deliver 563 horsepower and 664 lb.-ft. of torque. Automatic stop/start technology is standard with this engine, designed to conserve fuel while idling.

A twin-turbocharged, 6.0-liter V-12 engine is standard in the 2013 CL65 AMG, generating 621 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 738 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm. A 5-speed AMG SpeedShift automatic transmission delivers the power to the rear wheels, and the CL65 AMG can reach a top speed of 186 mph, according to Mercedes.

Both models have a performance-tuned version of Active Body Control suspension, high-performance braking system, and a sport exhaust system.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG and CL65 AMG models are:

  • CL63 AMG: 15/22/18 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • CL65 AMG: 12/18/14 mpg

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class comes with 9 standard air bags and a traction and stability control system. The 4-wheel-disc anti-lock braking system is equipped with perforated front discs and 4-piston calipers, and includes brake assist, Predictive Brake Priming, brake drying, and torque vectoring braking technology. Hill-start assist, hill-hold assist, Attention Assist drowsy driver detection, Pre-Safe collision readiness technology, Mbrace telematics system, and rain-sensing wipers are also included.

The CL63 AMG can be optioned with a reversing camera, active cruise control, active blind-spot assist, active lane-keeping assist, and a Night View Assist Plus system with Pedestrian Detection technology. These features are standard on the CL65 AMG.

As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class.
