The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class started out as the coupe version of the S-Class sedan, spun off as a class of its own in 1998. A high-performance luxury car, the CL-Class is still very similar to the S-Class, but with long doors and a shorter wheelbase. For 2010, the automaker has introduced a limited "100th Anniversary of Mercedes-Benz Edition" of the CL550 4Matic trim.
The CL550 4Matic features 18-inch wheels, sunroof, a full complement of power accessories (including door and trunk closers and 14-way heated and ventilated front seats), bi-Xenon headlights, keyless ignition, keyless entry, Harman Kardon sound system, and hard-drive-based navigation system. Several option packages are available. The 100th Anniversary edition features the Sport and the Premium 2 packages as standard, and upgrades the leather upholstery, exterior paint, and trim.
The progressively more powerful CL600, CL63 AMG, and CL65 AMG add many more enhancements to standard equipment, including adaptive cruise control, sport-tuned suspension, premium brakes, and a wealth of options.
The various trim levels of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class come with different engines and drivetrains. The CL550 4Matic features a 382-horsepower, 5.5-liter V-8 engine, 7-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. The CL600 uses a 510-horsepower, 5.5-liter, twin-turbo V-12 engine, 5-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive. The CL63 AMG's engine is a 518-horsepower 6.2-liter V-8 that works with a 7-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The CL65 AMG features a 604-horsepower, 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V-12 engine, 5-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive.
In addition to a full complement of air bags, steadying controls, and pre-impact reactors, a long list of exclusive safety features are standard or optional on the 2010 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class. These include Nightview Assist, which helps to detect pedestrians in the dark, and Attention Assist, which sounds an alarm if the driver appears to have lost focus.
Starting MSRPs for the 2010 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class ranged from $110,400 to $207,170.
