What's New
For 2007, the CL-Class coupe is all new and makes a bold design statement backed up by powerful new engines: a 382-hp V-8 and a 510-hp V-12. In addition, a high-performance CL63 AMG version will join the lineup midway through the model year.

The CL is a large and dramatically styled 2-door coupe based on a modified S-Class platform. The design features a dynamic roofline, reverse-tapered rear roof pillars, and a wraparound rear window. Inside, the CL has hand-fitted, premium leather upholstery; hand-polished burl walnut, black ash, or poplar wood trim; dual-zone climate control; and a 20GB hard-drive navigation system integrated with a 600-watt, 11-speaker Harmon/Kardon surround-sound audio system.

The CL is available as the CL550, CL600, and the CL63 AMG. The CL550 carries a 382-hp, 5.5-liter V-8. The CL600 draws on a twin-turbocharged 5.6-liter V-12 that pumps out 510 hp and 612 lb.-ft. of torque. However, the highest-performance version is the CL63 AMG with a hand-built, 6.3-liter normally aspirated V-8 as well as many other special performance modifications.

The CL comes with Mercedes' Pre-Safe safety system that the automaker launched with its latest S-Class. Pre-Safe sensors take protective measures when a crash is impending by tightening seat belts, properly positioning a reclined front passenger's seat (to prevent submarining), and automatically closing the sunroof and side windows. Pre-Safe also reacts to emergency braking, fishtailing, or to a vehicle that's plowing ahead instead of turning by engaging vehicle stability controls to help the driver maintain control.

The CL also features Distronic Plus, a radar-based cruise control that maintains a safe distance between a vehicle and the one ahead and provides a proximity warning from the rear bumper. The CL also features adaptive brake lights that flash to warn those behind of an emergency stop. A night-vision system also is available.
