Overview

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a compact sedan that was first introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the outgoing 190 model range. The current model is in its third generation, last completely redesigned for the 2008 model year. The 2011 variants are mostly carryovers, with the exception of minor equipment changes and a new maintenance option.

The C-Class is sold only as a sedan - the wagon was dropped several years ago. Entry-level models feature vinyl upholstery with leather as an option. All are configured with a long list of amenities, including air conditioning and full power accessories. Options include the Premium 1 package, a Lighting package, and a Multimedia package.

Mercedes-Benz sells the C-Class as two distinct models: Luxury and Sport. The Sport models are distinguished by a large three-pointed star integrated directly into the fascia. Their interiors feature bolstered seats with special trim inside the cabin and sport-tuned suspension. Luxury models feature a traditional chrome grille with the Mercedes three-pointed star ornament mounted at the front of the hood, an elegant interior, and suspension that has been tuned for ride comfort.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered with several different engines. The 300-series are fitted with a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder engine rated at 228 horsepower. The 350-series receives a larger 3.5-liter, six-cylinder engine that produces 268 horsepower. The flagship C63 boasts a 6.2-liter, eight-cylinder engine with output of 450 horsepower. A seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive is standard on all models. All-wheel drive - called 4MATIC - is optional on some models. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz C-Class between 13 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, depending on powertrain.

The 2011 Mercedes-Benz C300 Sedan starts with a base price of about $34,500 and tops out with the C63 AMG, which starts around $59,000.
