Exterior FeaturesThe 2013 Mazda 2 is a subcompact 5-door hatchback sold in Sport and Touring trim levels. Standard exterior equipment includes power side mirrors, intermittent front wipers, rear wiper/washer, rear window defogger, and 15-inch steel wheels with plastic wheel covers.
Interior FeaturesThe 2013 Mazda 2 Sport is equipped with air conditioning, power door locks, remote keyless entry, and power windows with automatic driver window operation. Cloth seats are standard, along with visor vanity mirrors, tilt steering wheel, manual driver seat height adjuster, floor mats, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. The Mazda 2 Sport also offers a 4-speaker stereo with a CD/MP3 player, USB port, and an auxiliary audio input jack.
Pop the Mazda 2's hatchback to discover a trunk measuring 13.3 cubic feet. Fold the rear seat down, and the Mazda 2 can carry up to 27.8 cubic feet of cargo.
Optional FeaturesThe Mazda 2 Touring model is better equipped, including 15-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, rear spoiler, and a chrome exhaust tip. Inside, the Mazda 2 Touring offers cruise control, trip computer, and a 6-speaker stereo with audio controls on a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Cloth door panel inserts and upgraded cloth upholstery with red piping are also included on this model.
Options for the Mazda 2 include an automatic transmission, Bluetooth connectivity, Crystal White Pearl Mica paint, cargo net, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a universal garage door opener. Dealers can also install a handful of extra-cost accessories.
Under the HoodThe 2,306-pound 2013 Mazda 2 is equipped with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine delivering 100 horsepower and 98 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard. A 4-speed automatic transmission is optional.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Mazda 2 are:
- Mazda 2 with manual transmission: 29/35/32 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Mazda 2 with automatic transmission: 28/34/30 mpg
SafetyThe 2013 Mazda 2 is equipped with 6 air bags, traction and stability control system, and front-disc/rear-drum anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. Mazda offers no additional safety features for the Mazda 2.
As this overview is written, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not performed crash tests on the 2013 Mazda 2. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2013 Mazda 2 received a "Good" rating in the moderate overlap frontal impact test, "Acceptable" rating in the side-impact test, "Good" rating in the roof crush strength test, and an "Acceptable" rating in the rear-impact injury prevention test.
