Exterior Features
The 2012 Mazda 2 is a budget-priced hatchback, now in its second year of production. The base trim level is the Sport, which features 15-inch steel wheels and remote keyless entry. The Touring trim features alloy wheels, rear roof spoiler, fog lights, and chrome exhaust tips.

Interior Features
The Mazda 2 Sport features air conditioning, power accessories, and a 4-speaker sound system. The Touring trim includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls mounted on it, cruise control, premium cloth upholstery, 6-speaker sound system, and a trip computer. Behind the rear seats, 13.3 cubic feet of cargo space is available; with the seats folded down, capacity increases to 27.8 cubic feet.

Optional Features
The Mazda 2 features a center console with armrest, and also an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Bluetooth connectivity is offered as a dealer-installed option.

Under the Hood
The Mazda 2 is a front-wheel-drive vehicle. Its standard power plant is a 100-horsepower, 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that works with a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Mazda 2 are:
- Mazda 2 with manual transmission: 29/35/32 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Mazda 2 with automatic transmission: 28/34/30 mpg

Safety
Standard safety features on the Mazda 2 include anti-lock brakes (front disc, rear drum), traction control, front-seat side air bags, and side curtain air bags.

To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not conducted tests on the 2012 Mazda 2. In safety tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Mazda 2 received "Good" ratings--the Institute's highest--for frontal-offset crash protection and roof strength, and "Acceptable" for side-impact protection.
