What's New for 2015:
- MyLincoln Mobile App access due to 3G connectivity
- Four new colors: Luxe, Magnetic, Bronze Fire, and Guard
The 2015 Lincoln MKZ is a midsize luxury sedan with an entry-level price, available in a variety of configurations. Because of its price, size, and packaging, the MKX competes with a wide range of disparate models including, but not limited to, the Acura TLX, Audi A4, Chrysler 300, Infiniti Q50, Lexus ES, Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, and Volvo S60. A hybrid version is also available.Models and Features
The first decision a Lincoln MKZ buyer must make is whether or not to get a traditional gasoline engine or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. Either way, the price is the same, a rarity in a world where hybrids usually command a premium.
Select the standard MKZ and the next choice is between a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine or a V-6 engine, each of which can be paired with front-wheel (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). Then, choose between Premiere, Select, and Reserve equipment groups, followed by additional options.
Premiere equipment is standard. Upgrading to the Reserve package adds leather upholstery, power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with a wood trim enhancement, ambient cabin lighting, and HD Radio. This version also includes front accent lights, power-folding side mirrors, and auto-dimming glass for the driver's side mirror.
Reserve equipment includes everything listed above plus a navigation system, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, and a power trunk lid with a soft close feature. This version of the car also has a 3G modem providing access to a MyLincoln Mobile App, along with a 110-volt power outlet and a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert.Under the Hood
The 2015 Lincoln MKZ is equipped with a standard turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that is rated to make 240 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 270 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm. As an option, MKZ buyers can select a 300-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, which delivers power to the car's front wheels. An AWD system is optional.
The Lincoln MKZ Hybrid pairs a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor, 35-kW Lithium-ion battery, and a continuously variable transmission. Regenerative brakes capture kinetic energy and recharge the battery in the process, which means the MKZ Hybrid never needs to be plugged in to charge the battery. Combined, these components generate 188 horsepower, and the MKZ Hybrid is available only with FWD.Fuel Economy
The most fuel-efficient version of the MKZ is the hybrid model, which is rated by the EPA to return 41 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. Stick with the standard turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and the MKZ gets 22 mpg city/33 mpg highway with FWD and 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway with AWD. Select the optional V-6 and mileage ratings decline to 18 mpg city/27 mpg highway with FWD and 18 mpg city/26 mpg highway with AWD.Safety and Technology
Among the Lincoln MKZ's standard safety features, its MyKey technology allows parents of younger drivers to program vehicle speed and stereo volume limits, and compels them to buckle up by making it impossible to listen to music until their seat belts are fastened. Additionally, the standard Sync Bluetooth connectivity includes 911 Assist technology, which automatically dials out for help following a collision and air bag deployment as long as a paired smartphone is aboard the MKZ at the time of the accident.
MyLincoln Touch is standard, an infotainment system with an 8-in. color touch-screen display. It can be upgraded with a navigation system and a premium sound system. Lincoln also offers multi-contour front seat designs for the MKZ, which feature active motion massage, and an active park-assist system steers the car into a parallel parking space while the driver operates the pedals and transmission.
Safety equipment upgrades include a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control system with collision warning and brake support, and a lane-keeping system that warns when the MKZ is drifting from the intended lane of travel and can even nudge the car back onto its intended path. Adaptive LED headlights, automatic high-beam headlights, and inflatable rear seat belts that cushion rear occupants from impact forces in a crash are also available for the 2015 Lincoln MKZ.
