The Lincoln MKX is a luxury crossover SUV that seats two in front and three in back. It's an upscale version of the Ford Edge, and the 2014 model is unchanged from the previous year aside from some changes in its Limited Edition options, and new optional wheels. It's available in a single trim level, in front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), and in eight exterior colors, some of which come with a surcharge. Standard interior features of the 2014 Lincoln MKX include heated and cooled front seats; rear-window defroster with washer and dual-speed wiper; remote start; body-colored power exterior mirrors; dual-zone automatic climate control; push-button start; leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob; perforated leather-trimmed front bucket seats; front center floor console; below-floor rear cargo-management system; satellite radio; and a premium sound system with 10 speakers. Reclining rear seatbacks are standard. Standard exterior features include a split-wing grille; projector-beam halogen headlights with autolamp feature and wiper activation; fog lamps; power liftgate; and reverse-sensing system. The MKX's rear cargo area offers 32.3 cu. ft. of space; with rear seatbacks folded down, total cargo capacity is 68.6 cu. ft.Options and Packages
An optional Premium package includes 18-in. polished aluminum wheels; adaptive HID headlights; ambient lighting; blind-spot warning system; LED turn signal indicators; premium perforated leather-trimmed seats with piping; heated second-row outboard seats; illuminated front scuff plates; rearview camera; rain-sensing wipers; heated steering wheel; and power steering column. The Elite package includes a voice-activated navigation system with integrated satellite radio functions, 14 speakers with subwoofer, and HD Radio technology; panoramic sunroof; and the Premium features. The Limited Edition package includes ceramic-colored leather seating with a metallic stripe and piping and red contrast stitching, plus premium floor mats and special badging inside and out. The Wood package adds genuine wood interior trim in walnut swirl or olive ash. A trailer tow package allows towing of up to 3,500 lbs.
Many of the features included in the Premium and Elite package are offered as individual options. Other options include adaptive cruise control; roof rack side rails; polished or painted 18-in. aluminum wheels; chrome-clad or polished 20-in. aluminum wheels; 22-in. polished aluminum wheels; and a rear-seat entertainment system with dual displays.Under the Hood
The 2014 Lincoln MKX employs a 3.7-liter V-6 engine that makes 305 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque, coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission.Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the 2014 Lincoln MKX gets 18 mpg in the city, 26 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined with FWD, and 17/23/19 mpg with AWD.Safety Ratings and Technology
Standard safety equipment on the 2014 Lincoln MKX includes anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, active front head restraints, front side air bags, side curtain air bags, and rear park-assist sensors. The MyKey system can limit the speed and stereo volume for guest drivers. Optional safety features include a rearview camera, blind-spot monitor, and adaptive cruise control.
In crash testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2014 Lincoln MKX received 3 stars (out of a possible 5) for frontal crash protection; 5 stars for side crash protection; and 4 stars for rollover protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the MKX its top rating of "Good" in all of its individual crash tests.
