Overview

The Lexus RX is a midsize crossover that was first introduced in 1998. Sharing underpinnings with the Toyota Camry, the RX offers a carlike ride in a sport utility package. Now in its third generation (last redesigned for the 2010 model year), the RX is a carryover for 2011.

The 2011 Lexus RX is sold in two different models: RX350 and Hybrid. As expected from the luxury brand, all Lexus RX models are well-equipped with a long list of standard features including full power accessories, dual-zone climate control, 10-way power front seats, auto-dimming mirrors, keyless entry and ignition, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and more. Most optional equipment is bundled into one of several packages, including: Sports (sport-tuned suspension, 19-inch wheels, Lexus' Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system); Premium (sunroof, auto-dimming mirrors, leather upholstery, power rear liftgate, and more); Comfort (heated and ventilated seats, bi-Xenon headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, wood steering wheel, and more); or Navigation (satellite-based navigation, back-up camera, and more). Individual options on the 2011 Lexus RX Series include parking sensors, Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system, and a rear DVD entertainment system.

The 2011 Lexus RX Series offers buyers a choice between two different engines. The standard power plant is a 3.5-liter 6-cylinder engine rated at 275 horsepower. The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual. The RX Hybrid model features a 3.5-liter 6-cylinder engine mated to electric motors for a total system power of 295 horsepower. It is fitted with a standard, electronically controlled, continuously variable transmission. The standard driveline is front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive optional on both the gasoline- and hybrid-powered models. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Lexus RX Series between 18 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, depending on powertrain.

The 2011 Lexus RX 350 FWD starts at a base price of around $39,500 and tops out with the RX Hybrid, which starts at around $45,000.
