Exterior FeaturesThe 2013 Lexus RX gets a mid-life refresh in the form of revised front styling featuring the company's new signature "spindle-grille" design, new LED running lights, and redesigned taillights. A power tailgate is standard for 2013, and new color choices include Fire Agate Pearl, Claret Mica, Silver Lining Metallic, and Deep Sea Mica.
Interior FeaturesInside, the 2013 Lexus RX is equipped with cloth seats as standard equipment. Changes for 2013 include a redesigned center console, restyled gauges, new steering wheel, and an iPod/USB connection for the stereo. Genuine wood trim, in a choice between Ebony or Espresso hues, decorates the cabin.
Optional FeaturesLeather is a popular option for the Lexus RX, and a new Saddle Tan color is available for 2013. Also new this year is the F Sport package, which adds a sport-tuned suspension, bigger 19-inch wheels and tires, unique exterior design details, and special interior trimmings.
Lexus continues to offer a navigation system, rear-seat entertainment system, Mark Levinson premium sound, and soft semi-aniline leather as options. Additionally, the 2013 RX is available with Lexus Enform Safety Connect services and a number of extra-cost safety technologies.
Under the HoodA 3.5-liter V-6 engine that creates 270 horsepower is standard on the RX 350. A 6-speed automatic transmission delivers the power to the front wheels (FWD). All-wheel drive (AWD) with Active Torque Control is optional.
In the RX 450h hybrid, an Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V-6 engine is paired with front and rear electric assist motors powered by a rechargeable battery pack, generating a total of 295 horsepower. The RX 450h can drive short distances on battery power alone, Lexus says, and a new Sport Mode is designed to improve steering and powertrain response.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Lexus RX are:
- RX 350 FWD: 18/25/21 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- RX 350 AWD: 18/24/20 mpg
- RX 450h FWD: 32/28/30 mpg
- RX 450h AWD: 30/28/29 mpg
SafetyEvery Lexus RX has 10 standard air bags, stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, and a Smart Stop system that makes it impossible to accelerate with the brake pedal depressed, according to the automaker. One year of Lexus Enform Safety Connect telematics is included, and features Automatic Collision Notification and SOS Emergency services. Safety-related options include rain-sensing wipers, reversing camera, front and rear park-assist sensors, and a Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Pre-Collision System.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) provides a 4-star rating (out of 5 stars) for rollover resistance. Other crash-test ratings for the 2013 Lexus RX are unavailable as this overview is written.
