What's New for 2012:
- Slight reshuffling of option packages
Exterior Features
The Lexus RX is a midsize crossover utility vehicle available in two models: the 350 and the 450h (hybrid). Features include 18-inch wheels (19-inch wheels available with some option packages), LED headlights, and power-retractable outside mirrors.
Interior Features
Both the RX 350 and the RX 450h come with a single trim level but with many option packages. Standard features and equipment include full power accessories, dual-zone climate control, 10-way power front seats, auto-dimming mirrors, keyless entry and ignition, Bluetooth connectivity, cloth upholstery, wood interior trim, and a 9-speaker audio system.
Optional Features
Most optional equipment on the RX is bundled into one of several packages. The Premium package, which is required for most other options, includes leather seating, sunroof, iPod interface, power tailgate, and several other luxury touches. Other option packages available (with the Premium package prerequisite) include Luxury (19-inch wheels, LED headlights, premium leather seating, upgraded steering wheel, and front-seat cushions); Navigation (voice-controlled navigation system); Comfort (adaptive Xenon headlights, heated/cooled front seats, premium audio, and more); and stand-alone options, including a 15-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, rear-seat entertainment system, additional safety features, and more.
Under the Hood
The 2012 Lexus RX offers a choice between a 3.5-liter V-6 engine rated at 275 horsepower, and a 3.5-liter V-6 engine combined with electric motors that delivers 295 horsepower. The standard driveline is front-wheel (FWD), with all-wheel drive (AWD) optional on both models. The conventional engine uses a standard 6-speed manual transmission, and the hybrid uses an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.
Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Lexus RX 350 and 450h are:
- RX 350 with FWD: 18/25/21 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- RX 350 with AWD: 18/24/20 mpg
- RX 450h with FWD: 32/28/30 mpg
- RX 450h with AWD: 30/28/29 mpg
