Exterior Features
The 2012 Lexus IS is a highly customizable entry-level luxury car available in several models. The Lexus IS 250 and IS 350 are rear-wheel-drive sedans; the IS 250 and 350 AWD models add all-wheel drive; and the IS 250C and IS 350C are convertibles. The performance version of the sedan is the IS F. The standard Lexus IS 250 features 17-inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition, sunroof, and fog lights. The IS 350 adds Xenon headlights as a standard feature. Convertible models have a folding hardtop. The IS F upgrades to 19-inch wheels and adds sport suspension, Brembo brakes, limited-slip rear differential, plus other upgrades.

Interior Features
Standard features on the base Lexus IS 250 include leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, power accessories, emergency telematics, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 13-speaker sound system. Standard features are gradually added to each successive trim level. The IS F, the highest trim level, features black suede seat inserts, and two-tone interior color schemes.

Optional Features
Many packages and stand-alone options are available on the 2012 Lexus IS, including a navigation system, Mark Levinson surround-sound system, wood trim, heated and ventilated seats, spoilers, sportier wheels, and much more.

Under the Hood
The 2012 Lexus IS 250 and 250C feature a 2.5-liter V-6 engine, while the IS 350 and 350C have a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The IS F is fitted with a 5.0-liter V-8 engine. Power ranges from 204 horsepower and 185 lb.-ft. of torque for the IS 250/250C, to 306 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque for the IS 350/350C, to 416 horsepower and 371 lb.-ft. of torque for the V-8-powered IS F.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Lexus IS are between 16 and 21 mpg in the city and 23 to 30 mpg on the highway.

Standard safety features on the Lexus IS include anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, front-seat side air bags, and side curtain air bags. Other features are added to upper trims.

To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not tested the 2012 Lexus IS. In safety tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Lexus IS-Series received "Good" ratings--the Institute's highest--for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection, and an "Acceptable" rating for roof strength.
