Overview

The Lexus GX 460 is a midsize luxury crossover SUV. It underwent a complete redesign for the 2010 model year, gaining a slightly smaller but more powerful engine and higher fuel economy numbers. The Lexus GX 460 is built on a traditional truck platform, similar to the Toyota 4Runner, but with more luxury-oriented details.

The base-level GX 460 features 18-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated power front seats and power-folding third-row seats, 9-speaker sound system, and a Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, which the automaker says will adjust the anti-roll bars in off-road situations to provide more stability. The GX 460 Premium trim replaces that suspension system with an adaptive variable suspension system, and upgrades the upholstery to semi-aniline leather. The Premium trim also heats the second-row seats, upgrades the mirrors and lights, and adds a tonneau cover to the rear cargo area. Stand-alone options on the 2010 Lexus GX include a 17-speaker Mark Levinson surround sound system, hard-drive-based navigation system, adaptive cruise control, wide-view mirrors, and a rear entertainment system.

The 2010 Lexus GX 460's new engine is a 301-horsepower, 4.6-liter V-8 model that replaces the previous year's larger but less-powerful 4.7-liter V-8-hence the name change from GX 470 to GX 460. The GX 460 features full-time 4-wheel drive with a selectable low range, and a 6-speed automatic transmission with "manumatic" shifting is standard. According to the EPA, the 2010 Lexus GX 460 delivers 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. Properly equipped, the GX 460 can tow 6500 pounds, Lexus says.

Standard safety features on the 2010 Lexus GX 460 include anti-lock disc brakes, traction and stability control, downhill and hill-start assist controls, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags. An optional "Crawl Control" system can be substituted for the downhill control, and an emergency communications system is available.

Starting MSRPs were $52,845 for the base 2010 GX 460, and $57,640 for the GX 460 Premium.
