Overview

What's New
The fifth-generation ES-the ES 350-is all-new for 2007. Longer and wider than the 2006 model, it features revised sheet metal, a larger 3.5L V-6 with drive-by-wire throttle control (in which the mechanical link between the engine and throttle pedal is replaced with an electronic connection), a 6-speed automatic transmission, eight standard air bags, and a new navigation system with a backup camera. Additionally, there's a new standard audio system, a new generation of the optional Mark Levinson audio system, and a panorama glass sunroof.

Overview
The latest iteration of Lexus' venerable ES comes powered by a 3.5L V-6 engine producing 272 hp and 254 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift capability delivers power to the front wheels. Safety features abound in the ES, including eight standard air bags (dual front, dual front knee, dual side, and side-curtain), and 10 if optioned with the rear-seat side air bags. Anti-lock brakes, vehicle stability control, and traction control are also included. An available Adaptive Front Lighting system allows both right and left front headlamp bulbs to swivel at the same time to help illuminate a corner as the driver steers into it.

Standard amenities include a moonroof, wood interior trim, SmartAccess keyless entry and push-button engine start/stop, dual power and heated external mirrors, and a multi-information display. Several option packages are available, including the Premium Package that includes Bluetooth technology, leather seating surfaces including the driver's seat and steering wheel, and exterior mirror memory. The Premium Plus Package adds driver's power cushion extender, rain-sensing wipers, heated/ventilated seats, a full-size spare tire, and passenger-seat memory. The Ultra Luxury Package adds a panorama glass sunroof, upgraded leather, 17-inch wheels, a power rear sunshade, a wood/leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, the navigation system with backup camera, and rear-seat side air bags.

Other options include a Mark Levinson Audio package with navigation system, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and the Pre-Collision System, which uses radar to detect obstacles in front of the car, and a pre-collision system that monitors vehicle speed, steering angle, and yaw rate inputs to determine in advance whether a collision is unavoidable. If necessary, the system can preemptively retract the driver's and front passenger's seat belts, and prepare the Brake Assist system for increased braking force in order to reduce collision speed.
