The 2014 Lexus ES is an entry-level luxury sedan equipped with one of the largest interiors in its class. As such, it competes in terms of price against models such as the Acura TL, Cadillac ATS, and Lincoln MKZ, but competes in terms of space with the Acura RLX, Cadillac XTS, and Lincoln MKS.Models and Features
Two versions of the 2014 Lexus ES are available. The ES 350 is the most popular model, equipped with a V-6 engine. The ES 300h is a little more expensive and features a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. Each is well equipped, and each can be upgraded with a choice between several option packages and individual extra-cost features.Options and Packages
Lexus ES buyers can tailor the car to specific requirements. Highlights from the list of optional equipment, contained within an option package or available separately, include a navigation system, Lexus Enform App Suite technology, premium and high-end audio systems, and a panoramic glass sunroof.
Comfort-related upgrades include leather in two grades of quality, heated and ventilated front seats, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, heated steering wheel, memory for the driver's preferred settings, manual rear side window sunshades, and a power rear window sunshade. Additionally, the ES is available with a power-operated trunk, 18-in. aluminum wheels with a high-gloss finish, and an Intuitive Parking Assist system that steers the car into a parallel parking space while the driver operates the transmission and pedals.Under the Hood
A 268-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine is standard for the 2014 ES 350 model, delivering its power to the car's front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission that features a manual shift gate.
Get the 2014 ES 300h for a hybrid powertrain comprised of a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, an electric motor, continuously variable transmission (CVT), and a nickel-metal hydride battery pack. Combined, they produce 200 horsepower and, thanks to the electric motor, the ES 300h has lots of torque down low in the rev range to make the car feel more powerful than it is.Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the 2014 Lexus ES 300h is rated to return 40 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. The more popular model, the ES 350, gets 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.Safety Ratings and Technology
In crash testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) the 2014 Lexus ES receives a 5-star overall rating (out of 5 stars). In crash testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2014 Lexus ES receives a rating of "Good" in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats tests. However, as this overview was written, the IIHS has not yet conducted a small overlap frontal-impact test on the 2014 Lexus ES.
Standard safety equipment includes a first-aid kit and Safety Connect telematics with Automatic Collision Notification. Provided owners subscribe to the service, Automatic Collision Notification activates whenever the ES model's air bags deploy, notifying authorities of the crash, identifying the exact location of the car, and speeding rescuers to the scene even if the people inside the Lexus cannot respond to the emergency services operator. Additionally, Safety Connect features an Emergency Assistance SOS button that the owner can push at any time to summon help.
Smart Stop Technology is also standard for the 2014 Lexus ES, a system that is designed to prevent accidental acceleration by making it impossible for the car to accelerate as long as the driver is pressing down on the brake pedal. Safety-related options include rain-sensing wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, park-assist sensors, reversing camera, blind-spot and lane-departure warning systems, and a rear cross-traffic warning system. The ES can also be fitted with a Dynamic Radar Cruise Control system featuring a pre-collision system that can automatically brake the car if a collision is deemed imminent, thereby reducing speed prior to impact.
