Overview
The 2008 Land Rover Range Rover front-engine, 4-door, 5-passenger, 4-wheel drive (4WD) SUV, last redesigned in 2003, is mostly carryover from the 2007 model. This year, Range Rover adds infrared-deflecting glass to reduce heat transmission, more storage space, additional leather interior trim, and seven available interior wood trims. Additionally, the 2008 Range Rover offers a choice of two V-8 engines and updated technology.

Model Lineup
For 2008, the Land Rover Range Rover is available in V8 HSE and V8 Supercharged models. Both feature standard 4-wheel ABS, dynamic stability control, terrain response system, tire-pressure-monitoring system, bi-Xenon headlights, and an electronic 4-corner air suspension. The only significant differentiator is the choice of V-8 engines: 4.4-liter V-8 or 4.2-liter supercharged V-8. A few other features are standard only on the Supercharged model: special grille and power vents, Windsor leather-trimmed seats and trim, 20-inch wheels, locking rear differential, and Brembo front brakes.

Options on the 2008 Land Rover Range Rover include 20-inch, 7-spoke alloy wheels; electronically controlled, infinitely variable locking rear differential; rear-seat entertainment system; and a luxury interior package that includes 14-way adjustable heated and cooled front seats, Windsor leather-trimmed seat facing, removable luggage net, additional wood on the center console, and adaptive front lighting.

Powertrain
The 2008 Land Rover Range Rover V8 HSE is powered by a 4.4-liter, dual overhead cam (DOHC), 32-valve V-8 engine that generates 305 hp at 5750 rpm and 325 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. In V8 Supercharged models, the engine is the 4.2-liter, DOHC, supercharged V-8 engine that pumps out 400 hp at 5750 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 3500 rpm. Power is transferred through a 6-speed automatic transmission with manumatic shifting. Standard ABS, dynamic stability control, Brembo front brakes for improved stopping power, emergency brake assist, and a 4x4 information center are also standard. The terrain response system constantly monitors terrain and adjusts accordingly to five settings: general, grass/gravel/snow, mud/ruts, sand and rock crawl. EPA fuel economy estimates for both V-8 engines are 12 mpg city/18 mpg highway.

Safety
The 2008 Land Rover Range Rover is loaded with safety features, including rearview camera with parking assist; double-locked doors; Brembo front brakes (Supercharged model); emergency brake assist; dynamic stability control; 4-corner air suspension; hill descent control; and adaptive front headlights. All Range Rover models have nine air bags, including driver and front passenger, side, and side curtain air bags for all rows; 3-point safety belts with front pre-tensioners; adjustable head restraints; Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) for child safety seats; child safety locks for rear windows and doors; and a vehicle security system with keyless entry. The 2008 Range Rover has not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for crash protection or rollover resistance.

Technology
Advanced technology on the 2008 Land Rover Range Rover includes a premium touch-screen-interface navigation system; telephone integration system with Bluetooth technology; electronic parking brake; rearview camera with park distance control; rear-seat entertainment system with 710-watt, harman/kardon digital surround sound, 6-disc DVD player with auxiliary input jacks and wireless headphones; and Sirius satellite radio.
