The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a luxury sport utility vehicle that was first introduced for the 2005 model year. Not to be confused with its big brother, the flagship Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport is a shorter and completely different model built on the slightly smaller Discovery/LR3 platform. While both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport promise capable off-road prowess, the Sport is designed to offer improved on-road performance, Land Rover says. In 2010, Land Rover gave its Range Rover Sport a facelift with new front and rear fascias, an interior refresh, and new 8-cylinder engines. The 2011 model is virtually unchanged from last year.
The 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is sold in three trims. The standard Range Rover Sport HSE arrives with a full complement of luxury appointments, including leather upholstery, air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate control, full power accessories, keyless entry and ignition, front and rear parking sensors, bi-Xenon headlamps, navigation system, Bluetooth phone connectivity, rearview camera, 9-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, adjustable air suspension with adaptive damping, 19-inch alloy wheels, and more. The Range Rover Sport Supercharged model is upgraded with premium leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, heated windshield, more adjustable front seats, steering-wheel-mounted transmission controls, upgraded Brembo brakes, dynamic response suspension system, unique cosmetics, 20-inch alloy wheels, and more. The new Sport GT Limited Edition trim has adaptive headlights, automatic high beams, premium 14-speaker audio package, and other cosmetic enhancements. The Sport GT Limited Edition is only available in the Fuji White exterior color.
The 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is offered with a choice of two engines. The standard engine is a 5.0-liter 8-cylinder rated at 375 horsepower and mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Supercharged version is fitted with the same 8-cylinder gasoline engine, but it has been fitted with a supercharger to boost output to 510 horsepower. Like its naturally aspirated cousin, it is also bolted to a 6-speed automatic transmission. All versions of the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport feature full-time 4-wheel drive and a 2-speed transfer case to optimize gearing in off-road situations. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport between 12 mpg city and 18 mpg highway, depending on the engine.
The 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE starts at a base price of around $61,000 and tops out with the Range Rover Sport Supercharged, which starts at around $76,000.
