Overview

What's New for 2013:

  • Optional Black Design package with black wheels and black exterior trim
  • Optional Extended Leather package
  • Five additional exterior paint colors

Exterior Features
The 2013 Land Rover LR4 is a midsize, 5- or 7-passenger luxury SUV capable of serious off-road travel. It is offered in LR4 V8, LR4 HSE, and LR4 HSE LUX trim levels, all equipped with a unique Alpine roof design with a power sunroof and rear overhead glass panels with sun shades. Standard equipment includes heated power side mirrors, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear park-assist sensors, and 19-inch aluminum wheels.

Interior Features
Inside, the 2013 Land Rover LR4 is equipped with leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, premium sound system with dual USB ports, and Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming. The cabin can be trimmed in a choice of either genuine wood or lacquered wood panels.

With 42.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second-row seats and a maximum of 90.3 cubic feet behind the front seats, the Land Rover LR4 can accommodate plenty of cargo. With the third-row seats in use, however, the LR4 offers just 9.9 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Optional Features
The mid-level 2013 Land Rover LR4 model carries an HSE designation. It comes with LED running lights and unique split-spoke design 19-inch aluminum wheels, and includes 7-passenger seating. Power-folding side mirrors, reversing camera system, and a navigation system with a hard-drive music server are also standard on the HSE trim.

The LR4 HSE LUX is at the top of the lineup, offering premium leather upholstery, heated front seats, heated second-row seats, heated steering wheel, and an 825-watt premium surround-sound audio system with 17 speakers. This version is also equipped with heated washer jets, heated windshield, rear climate control, and a center console cooler box, along with LED cabin mood lighting, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and premium leather wrapped around the steering wheel, shifter knob, and the center console lid. Xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights illuminate the path forward, and the HSE LUX rides on unique 19-inch aluminum wheels.

In addition to trim level differences, all LR4 trims can be equipped with satellite radio, 20-inch aluminum wheels, and a Heavy Duty package that prepares the LR4 for serious towing. A Climate Comfort package is optional on the V8 and HSE trims, and includes heated front and second-row seats, heated steering wheel, windshield, and washer jets, and rear climate control. The HSE and HSE LUX can be equipped with a rear-seat entertainment system and with a Vision Assist package that adds xenon HID headlights to the HSE trim, plus adaptive headlights with automatic high beams and a Surround Camera System.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Land Rover LR4 is equipped with a direct-injection, 5.0-liter V-8 engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and a full-time 4-wheel-drive (4WD) system with Terrain Response technology.

The V-8 creates 375 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 375 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,500 rpm. Designed to perform during serious off-roading excursions, the engine has a deep oil pan to ensure proper lubrication on the steepest grades and angles, according to Land Rover. It is rated to tow up to 7,716 pounds, can accelerate the LR4 to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds, and goes 15,000 miles between service stops due to its semi-synthetic oil, the automaker says.

The LR4's transmission offers Normal, Sport and Manual driving modes. Terrain Response optimizes power delivery to the 4WD system based on the following settings: General Driving, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Sand, Mud/Ruts, and Rock Crawl. Terrain Response also includes a hill-start assist system and Gradient Acceleration Control technology. The LR4's 4WD system has a 2-speed transfer case and locking front and rear differentials.

With the LR4's standard air suspension in normal mode, ground clearance measures 7.3 inches. Raise it in off-road mode, and ground clearance increases to 9.5 inches. Maximum front-wheel travel measures 10 inches, rear-wheel travel is 13 inches, and water-fording depth is 27.5 inches. To ensure dependability under difficult driving conditions, Land Rover waterproofs many of the LR4's underhood components.

Fuel Economy
As this overview is written, the EPA has not provided official fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 LR4.

Safety
The 2013 Land Rover LR4 is equipped with 6 air bags, including side curtain air bags that protect occupants in all three rows of seats. Additionally, the LR4 comes with a traction and stability control system with active roll mitigation technology, trailer stability control system, and an all-terrain 4-wheel ventilated-disc anti-lock braking system with brake assist and cornering brake control. Front and rear parking sensors are also standard.

A reversing camera is included on the HSE and HSE LUX trims, and these versions of the LR4 can also be optioned with adaptive headlights that swivel to help the driver to see around dark corners, and a Surround View Camera system.

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2013 Land Rover LR4 as this overview is written.
