Overview

The Lincoln MKZ is an entry-level, midsize luxury sedan-an upscale cousin of the Ford Fusion, with which it shares a platform. Originally known as the Lincoln Zephyr, it was renamed for the 2007 model year, and the 2011 model is mainly a carryover from the previous year, when it received an extensive update. The MyKey system, which allows the owner to limit speed and audio volume when the car is on loan, is newly standard.

The 2011 Lincoln MKZ's standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, remote keyless entry, heated and cooled power front seats, fog lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 9-speaker sound system that's coupeed with the Sync multimedia entertainment/communications system. A sunroof, various safety features, and an upgraded sound system are optional. A Sport Appearance package of options includes 18-inch alloy wheels, sport-tuned suspension, and upgrades to the upholstery, interior trim, and grille. A Navigation package adds safety features, a sophisticated navigation system, and an upgraded sound system, with surround sound available. The Ultimate package includes the sunroof, adaptive Xenon headlights, and other upgrades.

The 2011 Lincoln MKZ is powered by a 263-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission that features SelectShift technology. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is available. According to EPA estimates, the MKZ delivers 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with FWD, and 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway with AWD.

Standard safety features on the 2011 Lincoln MKZ include anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control and traction control, rear parking sensors, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags. A blind-spot warning system and a rearview camera are optional. In government crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the MKZ received 5 (out of 5) stars for driver and front passenger protection in frontal impacts. The MKZ received highest-possible "Good" ratings in front-, side-, and rear-impact tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
