What's New for 2012:
- All-wheel drive (AWD) no longer available on base trim
- Price drop for EcoBoost trim
The 2012 Lincoln MKT is a large 4-door luxury crossover SUV offered in two trim levels: base and EcoBoost. Nineteen-inch wheels are standard, but may be upgraded to 20-inch wheels on the EcoBoost trim.
The 2012 Lincoln MKT offers three rows of seating and is available in either 6- or 7-passenger configurations. With all rows in use, the MKT provides 17.9 cubic feet of cargo space, and expands to 75.9 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded down. The MKT comes standard with leather upholstery, heated power front seats, heated second-row seats, and tri-zone automatic climate control. A 10-speaker sound system with CD player, satellite radio, and the voice-controlled Sync system are also standard.
Lincoln offers one package option group for the 2012 MKT, which is available only on the EcoBoost trim. The Elite package includes a voice-activated navigation system, premium surround-sound audio system, panoramic roof, and Lincoln's blind-spot information system. Although there are few stand-alone options for the base MKT, the EcoBoost trim may add an automatic parallel-parking system, rear-seat entertainment system, heated second-row captain's chairs, and a rear-seat console with refrigerator.
Under the Hood
The 2012 Lincoln MKT base trim is fitted with a 3.7-liter V-6 engine rated at 268 horsepower. The MKT EcoBoost comes with a twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter V-6 engine rated at 355 horsepower. While both trims are equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the base trim is front-wheel drive and the EcoBoost features all-wheel drive.
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Lincoln MKT are:
- MKT with FWD: 17/25/20 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- MKT EcoBoost with AWD: 16/22/18 mpg
Standard safety features on the Lincoln MKT include anti-lock brakes, front-seat side air bags, and side curtain air bags covering all three rows.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not tested the 2012 Lincoln MKT. In safety tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the MKT received a "Good" rating--the Institute's highest--for both frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection.
