  • Standard reversing camera
  • New color choices

Introduction
The 2014 Lincoln MKS is a full-size luxury sedan based on the platform that also provides the basis for the Ford Taurus and, by extension, the Ford Explorer, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT. The MKS is priced to compete against luxury sedans such as the Acura RLX, Cadillac XTS, Chrysler 300, Hyundai Genesis, Lexus ES, and Volvo S80.

Models and Features
Lincoln sells the 2014 MKS with a standard level of equipment that can be upgraded with Premium and Elite option packages.

Dual-zone automatic climate control, premium leather upholstery, genuine wood trim, and ambient cabin lighting are standard. Acoustic glass is used for the front windows to help quiet the cabin, and occupants sit on 12-way power front seats with heating, ventilation, and memory settings for the driver. Every MKS is also equipped with a wood-and-leather power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, Intelligent Access keyless entry system with push-button start, remote engine starting, and a universal garage door opener.

Technology-related equipment includes Sync Bluetooth connectivity, a MyLincoln Touch infotainment system, 10-speaker audio system with a 6-month trial subscription to satellite radio, and a media hub containing two USB ports, an SD card reader, and audio/video input jacks. Safety features such as SOS Post Crash Alert, 911 Assist service, MyKey programmable vehicle systems, and a reversing camera are also included in the base price.

The 2014 MKS rides on 19-inch aluminum wheels and a continuously controlled damping suspension. A Lincoln Drive Control system with Comfort, Normal, and Sport modes calibrates the suspension and steering to the driver's preferences. Active grille shutters are designed to improve fuel economy, and the MKS comes standard with adaptive headlights, automatic high-beam headlights, rain-sensing wipers, power heated blind-spot mirrors, front and rear park-assist sensors, fog lights, and LED taillights.

Options and Packages
All-wheel drive (AWD) is optional for the 2014 MKS, and the available twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine includes AWD plus 20-inch polished aluminum wheels and Active Noise Control technology.

Select the optional Premium package and the Lincoln MKS features a navigation system, premium THX II Certified Audio System with 16 speakers, HD Radio, heated steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, power rear window sunshade, and a blind-spot information system.

The Elite package contains the Premium package plus multi-contour front seats with Active Motion massage function, heated rear seats, expanded wood trim for the interior, an active park-assist system that steers the car while the driver operates the pedals, and a Lane Keeping System with lane-departure warning and lane-departure prevention technologies.

In addition to these upgrades, the MKS is available with 20-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control with Collision Warning with Brake Support, dual-panel moonroof, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

Under the Hood
A 3.7-liter V-6 engine is standard for the 2014 MKS, producing 304 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 279 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission delivers the power to the front wheels, and AWD is optional. The AWD system is included with the optional twin-turbo, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, which is rated to generate 365 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 350 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,500 rpm and 5,000 rpm.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, this full-size Lincoln's standard powertrain setup returns 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, with a combined driving rating of 22 mpg. Add AWD, and the numbers dip to 18 mpg city/26 mpg highway and 21 mpg in combined driving.

The more powerful twin-turbocharged V-6 and its standard AWD system are expected to get 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway and 20 mpg in combined driving.

Safety Ratings and Technology
In tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2014 Lincoln MKS received an overall crash-test rating of 5 stars--the highest possible. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not rated the MKS as this overview is written.

Standard safety equipment includes blind-spot side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, reversing camera, adaptive headlights with auto-dimming high-beam headlights, and MyKey technology, which allows the owner to program speed warnings and limits, stereo volume limits, incessant seat belt usage warnings, and more.

Sync 911 Assist service is also standard on the 2014 MKS. As long as a phone is paired to the system and aboard the car at the time of an air bag deployment, this system puts the occupants of the car in touch with an emergency operator who can send rescuers to the scene of the accident.

The optional Premium package adds a blind-spot warning system to the MKS, while the Elite package contains a Lane Keeping System that both warns when the car is drifting from its lane and assists the driver in returning to the lane. A Collision Warning with Brake Support system is included with the optional adaptive cruise control system.
