The Kia Sportage is a compact crossover SUV available in four trims: base, LX, EX, and SX. The model's profile takes some styling cues from the 1960s and 1970s. Base models come with 16-inch wheels, LX models have 17-inch wheels, while EX and LX models feature 18-inch wheels.
The Sportage's base trim features cloth upholstery, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and locks, 6-speaker sound system, and Bluetooth connectivity. The LX trim adds keyless entry, and upgrades the mirrors and windows. The EX trim level adds fog lights, power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear spoiler, LED running lights, and more. The SX trim adds a more powerful engine, leather upholstery, sport suspension, and upgraded styling inside and out. The Sportage provides 26 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats; with rear seats folded flat, total cargo space amounts to 54.6 cubic feet.
An upgraded sound system and navigation system are optional on all but the base model of the Sportage. The Convenience package on the LX trim adds a spoiler, roof rails, and rear parking sensors, which are all standard on the EX. On the EX and SX trims, the Premium package includes leather upholstery, heated front seats, sunroof, more-stylish gauges, and various other upgrades.
Under the Hood
The Sportage's standard power plant is a 176-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that works with front-wheel drive (FWD) and a 6-speed manual transmission on the base model, or with a 6-speed automatic transmission on the upper trims. All-wheel drive (AWD) is optional on all but the base trim. The SX trim features a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 260 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque.
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Kia Sportage are:
