What's New for 2014:

  • New front-end design details
  • Redesigned aluminum wheels
  • Storage areas designed to hold tablet computers
  • Sedona EX gains standard luxury features
  • Optional rear-seat entertainment system discontinued

Following a one-year hiatus, the Kia Sedona minivan returns for 2014 with a handful of changes. Last redesigned for the 2006 model year, the 2014 Sedona is the oldest model in a small but competitive class that includes the Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan, Honda Odyssey, Nissan Quest, and Toyota Sienna.

Models and Features
The 2014 Kia Sedona is sold in LX and EX trim levels. Standard equipment for the Sedona LX includes rear park-assist sensors, LED positioning lights, front fog lights, power exterior mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, and dark-tinted rear privacy glass. Among the interior highlights are satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, auxiliary audio input jack, front and rear power outlets, front and rear air conditioning, and something called a conversation mirror that allows the driver to see what's going on in each rear seating position. Additionally, the Sedona LX is equipped with power windows, power door locks, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, and floor mats.

Options and Packages
The only option offered for the Sedona LX is a Power package containing an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a reversing camera display and a universal garage door opener, power sliding side doors, automatic headlights, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.

These features are standard for the Sedona EX, which is also equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, leather seats, power-adjustable heated front seats, heated side mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and woodgrain cabin trim. Additionally, the EX trim level is distinguished by chrome exterior trim, solar-control windshield, illuminated visor vanity mirrors, power rear quarter vent windows, roof rack, trip computer, compass, power tailgate, and an upgraded audio system.

Exclusive options for the Sedona EX include a navigation system, premium audio system, and a Luxury package containing rain-sensing wipers, power-adjustable pedals, memory for the driver's settings, and a power sunroof.

Under the Hood
The 2014 Sedona is equipped with a 269-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission with a Sportmatic manual shift gate. All Sedonas are front-wheel drive.

Fuel Economy
The EPA says the 2014 Sedona should return 17 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg in combined driving.

Safety Ratings and Technology
As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has officially rated the Sedona for protection in a collision.

Rear park-assist sensors are standard, while a reversing camera is optional for the Sedona LX and standard for the Sedona EX. Bluetooth connectivity is standard for both models, while the EX is exclusively offered with a navigation system and a premium audio system.
