Overview
The Kia Sedona minivan was redesigned in 2006. For 2007, a short-wheelbase (SWB) version joined the lineup. 2008 changes are minor, but affect grilles, seats, sun visors (new material) and tires (Bridgestones instead of Michelins on the EX LWB model). Audio technology advances, too, as a cassette deck is deleted, but an auxiliary input jack for MP3 players is added as standard equipment. Kia is one of the few automakers to offer both short- and long-wheelbase versions of its minivans.

All 2008 Kia Sedonas are covered by a 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty with 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Model Lineup
While the LWB Kia Sedona is sold in both LX and EX trims for 2008, the SWB has only one trim level, which is similar in content to the lower-level LX LWB and includes power windows, mirrors, and locks; tri-zone air conditioning; an 8-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo; cruise control; and keyless entry. The EX LWB gets fog lights; an upgraded stereo with 8 speakers and MP3 capability; power adjustable front seats; leather-wrapped steering wheel; and a roof rack.

SWB models as well as the LX LWB get 16-inch steel wheels, while the EX LWB flashes 17-inch alloy wheels. Option packages add features such as power-operated sliding doors, power adjustable pedals and a back-up warning system to the EX LWB.

Powertrain
Both SWB and LWB versions of the 2008 Kia Sedona are powered by a 250-hp, 3.8-liter V-6 engine that drives the front wheels through an electronic 5-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic. EPA fuel economy estimates for the Sedona are 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway.

Safety
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Sedona minivan gets a "Good" rating in both frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests. Safety equipment includes front air bags; front-seat side air bags; full-length side curtain air bags covering all three rows; anti-lock brakes; electronic stability control; and active front headrests.

Technology
Both the SWB Sedona, which is about a foot shorter, and the LWB versions come with 7 seats, including flip-and-fold second-row seats. The third-row seats fold into the floor on LWB Sedona models, while that row splits, folds and can be removed in SWB models. The seats are shifted slightly forward in the SWB model, decreasing second-row leg room by about 4 inches. There is 12.9 cubic feet of storage space behind the third-row seat of the SWB model, compared to 32.2 for the LWB model. A rear-seat DVD player with a 9-inch monitor and two headsets is an option on LWB models.
