Exterior Features
The Jeep Compass is a smaller, sportier version of the Jeep Patriot, and is built to handle rougher terrain. Following an extensive restyling for the 2011 model year, the Compass carries over with few changes in 2012. The Compass' profile more closely resembles a traditional station wagon than the original Jeep and its descendants. The Compass is available in Sport, Latitude, and Limited trims. The Sport features 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and roof rails; the Limited features 18-inch wheels.

Interior Features
The standard interior features of the Jeep Compass Sport trim include a 4-speaker sound system, air conditioning, and some power accessories. The Latitude trim upgrades the seats (heated front seat and fold-down passenger seat) and adds leather to the steering wheel. The Limited trim includes a power driver's seat, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, satellite radio, and an upgraded sound system. Maximum cargo area volume comes to 22.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and 53.6 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

Optional Features
Most options are offered in package form and include a sunroof, security alarm, extra air bags, remote ignition, satellite radio, upgraded sound system, navigation system, and an extensive off-road package that offers towing equipment.

Under the Hood
The base Jeep Compass employs front-wheel drive (FWD) with a standard 5-speed manual transmission (continuously variable transmission is optional) and a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 158 horsepower. All other Compass trim levels feature a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder 172-horsepower engine. Four-wheel drive (4WD) is available on all trims.
