The Large Premium Sporty segment in which the XK competes is a small niche in the automotive world, but it carries significant icons like the Ford GT, Porsche Carrera GT, and the Mercedes-Benz SLR. This group features cars with exotic-like performance that can just as easily be driven to work or the grocery store.
According to the J.D. Power and Associates Sales Report,SM calendar year 2005 sales in this segment were led by the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class (14,835 units sold), followed by the BMW 6 Series (9,934) and the Jaguar XK-Series (2,282). The other players in the segment are the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class, Ford GT, Porsche Carrera GT, and Mercedes-Benz SLR.
