The 2008 Jaguar X-Type, available in either X-Type 3.0 sedan or X-Type Sportwagon, rolls into this year virtually unchanged from 2007. In fact, not much has changed design-wise on Jaguar's entry-level model since the X-Type's 2002 introduction. For 2008, some features that were formerly optional are now standard, including 10-way power front seats with driver memory, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers and rear center headrest. Both sedan and wagon models feature standard AWD.

Model Lineup
For 2008, consumers can choose either the Jaguar X-Type 3.0 sedan or X-Type Sportwagon, both with AWD. Standard features on the X-Type 3.0 sedan include 10-way power front seats with driver memory setting; rain-sensing wipers; auto-dimming rearview mirrors; 16-inch alloy wheels; moonroof; leather seats; real wood trim; tilt/telescoping steering wheel; trip computer; and 6-speaker audio system with CD player. X-Type Sportwagon adds 17-inch alloy wheels; fixed, silver roof rails; reverse parking assist; tailgate window that opens independently from the rear door; 28 cargo area storage compartments, including a power outlet; and a premium, 10-speaker audio system.

Options on the 2008 Jaguar X-Type include 17- or 18-inch wheels; heated seats; reverse parking assist (sedan); DVD-based navigation system; Bluetooth connectivity; Sirius satellite radio; premium audio system (sedan); audio connectivity module; rear-seat entertainment system; and metallic paint. Two luxury packages are available for customization, including 17-inch Belize or 18-inch Aruba wheels; contrast seat piping; chrome mirror caps; rear treadplates; burl walnut veneers; reverse park control; wood and leather steering wheel; and a programmable garage door opener.

The 2008 Jaguar X-Type is powered by a single engine, a 3.0-liter V-6 that delivers 227 hp at 6800 rpm and 206 lb.-ft. of torque at 3000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. AWD is standard, as are stability and traction control, 4-wheel independent suspension; and emergency brake assist. EPA fuel economy estimates for the V-6 engine are 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway.

The 2008 Jaguar X-Type is equipped with the following safety features: dual front air bags and driver knee air bag; front occupant seat-mounted side-impact air bags; and side-impact head curtain air bags for front and rear outboard passengers. Stability and traction control, ABS with brake assist, and vehicle skid control are standard. Additional safety features include an emergency trunk release (sedan); 3-point seat belts for all seating positions, including front height-adjustable belts with pyrotechnic pre-tensioners and load limiters; Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) for child safety seats; child rear-door safety locks; vehicle security system; and a flip key with hand-held alarm remote control and panic button.

The 2008 Jaguar X-Type has not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for frontal crash tests but receives a 4-star rating in side-impact tests for front and rear occupants and a 4-star rollover test rating.
