The rear-wheel-drive (RWD), 4-door, 5-passenger, midsize luxury sedan is now in its ninth year of the Ford-Jaguar partnership and is a carryover from last year's model. For 2008, changes are minimal, but 18-inch wheels are now standard, and there's a new front bumper design. The S-Type's competition includes the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Lexus GS and Audi A6/S6.

Model Lineup
The 2008 Jaguar S-Type is available in three models: S-Type 3.0, S-Type 4.2, and S-Type R. All models include stability and traction control, 4-wheel ABS, and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The S-Type 3.0 standard equipment list includes a 235-hp, 3.0-liter V-6 engine; 18-inch Triton wheels; cruise control; lightweight aluminum suspension; moonroof; leather seats; 16-way power-adjustable driver and 12-way passenger seats with lumbar; memory driver seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors; wood interior trim; wood- and leather-trimmed steering wheel; dual-zone climate control with pollen air filter; and rear parking assist.

The S-Type R substitutes the supercharged, 400-hp, 4.2-liter V-8 engine and adds 19-inch Barcelona wheels and R-performance brakes; stainless steel exhaust tips; black window surround; body-colored exterior mirrors, grille, bumper blades and rear spoiler; R-logo accents on leather seats, steering wheel and gearshift knob; and satin mahogany interior wood trim.

Options include 19-inch Barcelona wheels (S-Type 3.0 and S-Type 4.2); radar-based adaptive cruise control; navigation/Bluetooth package; audio connectivity module for iPod or MP3 player; and a rear-seat entertainment system with two screens. An R luxury package is available and includes an electric rear sunblind; leather seats with piping; premium carpeting; burl walnut wood interior trim; leather and wood trim on the steering wheel and shift knob; bright-finish mirror caps, grille surround and side windows; and radar-based adaptive cruise control.
