What's New for 2015:

  • All-new hardtop model debuts, joining convertible model
  • Hardtop 2-seater comes in three trim levels
  • Takes some design cues from iconic Jaguar E-Type

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe is an all-new 2-seat hardtop, somewhat reminiscent of the Jaguar E-Type roadster of the 1960s but with a more modern appearance. The F-Type Coupe is a rear-wheel-drive sports car that competes against the BMW Z4, Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche Cayman, and other luxury-themed 2-seaters. It joins the Jaguar F-Type Convertible, which debuted for the 2014 model year.

Models and Features
Jaguar describes the 2015 F-Type Coupe as "a pure Jaguar sports car." It's available in three trim levels (base F-Type, S Coupe, and R Coupe), 12 exterior colors, and various color combinations in the cockpit. The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Convertible comes in 13 exterior colors, and in four trim levels: base F-Type, S, V8 S, and PROJECT 7. Standard features on the base model include sport suspension; 18-in. Vela alloy wheels; sport exhaust with center-mounted twin exhaust pipes; Jaguar Performance Braking System with silver calipers; Slimline bi-function HID xenon headlamps with integral LED daytime running lights with built-in washers; retracting, flush-fitting door handles; and a deployable rear spoiler that automatically rises at speeds above 70 mph (reducing lift by as much as 264 lbs., according to Jaguar) and automatically retracts when vehicle speed goes below 40 mph.

The interior features leather and suedecloth sport seats with 6-way power/manual adjustment (Jaguar says the suedecloth center sections give the rider added grip during cornering); 3-spoke leather steering wheel with paddle shifters; GPS navigation system with Traffic Messaging Channel (TMC); and a 380-watt Meridian audio system with 10 speakers. Options include dual-zone automatic climate control, sunroof, suedecloth-covered steering wheel, configurable ambient lighting, blind-spot warning system with closing vehicle indicator, and switchable active exhaust.

The S Coupe and Convertible add 19-in. Propeller alloy wheels; steering wheel-mounted shift paddles in Ignis orange; sport suspension with Adaptive Dynamics, active sports exhaust with center-mounted dual exhaust pipes; Jaguar High Performance Braking System with black calipers; limited-slip differential; exterior "S" badging; Gloss Black and Chrome exterior trim; Jaguar Smart Key System with keyless start and keyless entry; configurable ambient interior lighting with five color choices; and power-folding, heated exterior mirrors with integrated LED turn signals and puddle lamps. A surround-sound system, heated leather-covered steering wheel, performance seats, and various Jaguar Style Packs are optional.

The R Coupe includes the S coupe features plus 20-in. Gyrodyne Silver alloy wheels; Jaguar Super Performance Braking System with red calipers; sport suspension with Adaptive Dynamics; switchable Active Sport Exhaust with quad exhaust pipes; configurable dynamics system; electronic active differential with torque vectoring by braking; performance seats with leather facings and 'R' embossing; 3-spoke leather flat-bottomed steering wheel with Ignis gear shift paddles; Dark Technical Weave Aluminum console trim with 'R' graphic; configurable ambient interior lighting with selectable palette; dual-zone climate control; reverse parking sensors; climate package with heated seats and heated steering wheel; garage door opener; HD Radio and satellite radio; and a  Meridian 770-watt audio system. The V8 S trim features comparable upgrades.

No more than 250 of the PROJECT 7 Convertible will be made, Jaguar has stated. Its upgrades include the most powerful engine the automaker has ever made for a production vehicle, as well as D-Type racing style with exclusive rear Aero Haunch; racing-inspired front bumper with carbon fiber splitter, and a new side grille mesh, center grille, and surround; lightweight all-aluminum body; carbon fiber rear diffuser, rear wing, hood vents, side vents and mirror caps; carbon ceramic brakes; race-inspired F-Type performance seat; removable 'bimini' convertible top; and unique 'Project 7' badging. Its standard colors are blue or white; red, black, and racing green are optional.

A great many options and accessories are available at all trim levels, for Coupe and Convertible, including different treatments of the door handles, mirrors, and rollover protection system; engine covers; hood decals; license plate frames; and logoed license plates.

Packaged options include the Performance Pack, Premium Pack, Vision Pack, Climate Pack, Premium Leather Pack, Exterior Black Pack, Exterior Carbon Fiber Pack, Exterior Design Pack, and the Red Leather Interior Pack.

Under the Hood
The F-Type's standard engine is 3.0-liter, 340-horsepower V-6 supercharged unit that produces 332 lb.-ft. of torque, coupled with an 8-speed "QuickShift" ZF transmission, Sport mode, and Intelligent Stop/Start. Jaguar claims the F-Type can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, to a top speed of 161 mph. The S trim level features a supercharged 380-horsepower version of the V-6 engine, one that produces 339 lb.-ft. of torque and can reach a top speed of 171 mph, according to Jaguar. The R Coupe upgrades to a 550-horsepower, 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 that can hit a claimed maximum speed of 186 mph.

The F-Type V8 S features a 495-horsepower V-8 engine that generates 460 lb.-ft. of torque. The PROJECT 7 Convertible boasts a 575-horsepower V-8 engine that cranks out 502 lb.-ft. of torque. Jaguar says this engine can take the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the standard engine on the base model F-Type is rated to get 20 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined. The more powerful version of that engine, on the F-Type S, returns 19/27/22 mpg city/highway/combined; the 495-horsepower V-8 gets 16/23/18 mpg. Fuel-economy figures were not available for the 550-horsepower or the 570-horsepower engines as this overview was written.

Safety and Technology
The 2015 Jaguar F-Type offers an optional Vision Pack, which adds visibility and driver-assist features such as adaptive front lighting, intelligent high beams, front and rear park-assist sensors, reverse parking camera, blind-spot monitor, and a detector for reverse traffic.
