Overview
Infinti's G35 was launched in 2003 as a powerful rear-wheel-drive (RWD) sports car in both coupe and Sedan configurations. Based on the same FM (Front Midship) platform shared with the Nissan Z and FX35/FX45, their sleek looks, chassis dynamics and long list of standard features made them popular alternatives to the BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS and Audi A4. The G35 Sedan was replaced in 2007 with an all-new, second-generation G35 model that was larger, slightly more powerful and more luxurious. For 2008, Infiniti introduced the second-generation G37 coupe. The name change reflected its larger 3.7-liter powerplant. It arrived with an improved chassis and even further refinement, according to the maker. For 2009, Infiniti has once again made significant changes to the G lineup with an engine upgrade in the Sedan, a new all-wheel-drive coupe, and an all-new G37 Convertible scheduled to arrive in showrooms in the spring of 2009.

All 2009 Infiniti G Sedan, coupe and Convertible models are offered with a 4-year/60,000-mile basic coverage warranty, 7-year/unlimited mileage corrosion warranty, and 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain coverage. Infiniti Roadside Assistance is standard during the first four years of ownership.

Model Lineup
Infiniti's G lineup includes no fewer than ten different variants in 2009. The Infiniti G37 Sedan is available in four different models: G37 Sedan, G37 Sedan Journey, G37x Sedan AWD, and G37 Sedan Sport 6MT. Infiniti's G37 coupe is available in four different models: G37 coupe, G37 coupe Journey, G37x coupe AWD, and G37 coupe Sport 6MT. The all-new G37 Convertible is offered in two models: G37 Convertible and G37S Convertible Sport 6MT. The Sedan and coupe have fixed roofs, while the Convertible features a 3-piece, power-operated, retractable steel hardtop that folds completely into the trunk area at the push of a button.

All 2009 Infiniti G models offer standard amenities including Vehicle Dynamic Control; high-intensity-discharge (HID) headlamps; power side-view mirrors/door locks/windows; leather seats with 8-way power; 6-speaker audio system with in-dash CD player; MP3 playback capability; auxiliary input jack; and cruise control with steering-wheel-mounted controls. Major option packages on the G models include the Technology package (Intelligent cruise control, adaptive front lighting, etc); Premium package (tinted glass sunroof, Bose premium audio, memory seats, etc); and the Navigation package (7-inch color touch screen, 9.3-gigabyte Music Box, etc). Standard wheels are 17- or 18-inch cast aluminum. Sport model vehicles are upgraded with larger wheels, performance tires, limited-slip differential, and larger brakes.

Powertrain
The 2009 Infiniti G Sedan, coupe and Convertible are each offered with a 3.7-liter, VQ37 DOHC 6-cylinder engine. While the powerplant is identical, horsepower ratings vary depending on the model-specific chassis. Under the hood of the Sedan, for example, the engine is rated at 328 horsepower. Fitted to the coupe, the engine is rated at 330 horsepower. The engine in the drop-top Convertible is rated at 325 horsepower. The standard driveline is RWD. The G37x AWD Sedan and G37x AWD coupe models boast Infiniti's ATTESA E-TS (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) AWD system. The G37 Sport 6MT models feature a standard close-ratio, lightweight, 6-speed manual transmission. All other models, including the AWD Sedan and coupe, feature a new 7-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode via paddle shifters, downshift rev matching, quick-shift mode, and Adaptive Shift control. Fuel economy for the automatic RWD Sedan and coupe is estimated by the EPA at 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

The suspension on all 2009 Infiniti G models is of a 4-wheel independent design with a double-wishbone front and a rear multi-link. Both ends feature stabilizer bars. The steering is rack-and-pinion, with vehicle-speed-sensitive power assist. The Sedan and coupe both offer a Rear Active Steering system (4WAS) on the Journey and Sport models. With the system activated, the rear wheels are designed to turn up to one degree to add stability during turns and cornering. Braking technology includes standard 4-wheel vented discs with anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA).

Safety
Infiniti equips the 2009 G37 Sedan and coupe with six standard air bags and several active safety features (information on the Convertible model has not been released). Infiniti's Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) offers dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat-belt and occupant sensors, and side-impact supplemental air bags, for both driver and passenger. Front- and rear-seat passengers in the G Sedan and coupe are protected by a roof-mounted curtain side-impact and rollover supplemental air bag system. A tire-pressure-monitoring system (TPMS) is standard on all 2009 Infiniti G models. Infiniti's traction control system (TCS) and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) are standard on both coupe and Sedan models. To simplify infant- and child-seat installation, the Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) system is built into the rear outboard seating positions on all models.

The 2007-08 Infiniti G35 Sedan has been crash tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It earned a "Good" rating (the Institute's highest) in the frontal offset test, and an "Acceptable" rating in the side-impact test. The 2009 Infiniti G37 coupe and Convertible have not been crash tested by the IIHS or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Technology
In addition to the Intelligent Key system, active steering, intelligent cruise control, preview braking and adaptive front lighting system-features that are standard or available on the Sedan, coupe and Convertible models-Infiniti offers an optional 11-speaker Bose Infiniti Studio on Wheels audio system. The upgraded audio package features a Burr-Brown Digital Audio converter and Bluetooth hands-free phone operation. The ten different Infiniti G models also offer a navigation system with real-time traffic information and a CompactFlash slot to load music into an internal 9.3-gigabyte Music Box hard drive that has the capacity to hold hundreds of songs, with easy access to the selections via the dashboard-mounted screen.
